NY chicken lover!!!!

I never thought of calling a nursing home directly. Good idea!
A lot of the nursing homes have the CNA classes and you usually get paid while doing the class

I've been put on strict bed rest and taken out of work. I went into preterm labor thursday and was admitted to the hospital. They put me on a magnesium iv to stop labor and i was released yesterday. DH is taken on the extra work around the house. He even put ointment on my toes where i had a cut.
Tab I was afraid you were going to go into preterm labor. Rest and keep that baby in at least until the 3rd the lungs should be fully developed then although it would be great if you could keep her in until the 10th that raises the chances of her lungs being developed. Did they give you steroid shots to speed up the lung development and did they give you any pills to take at home? If you need anything let me know.

The neighbor's @#$% dog came back after I already talked to him once. Killed three birds and injured my goose. I warned him last time if that dog came back and hurt the goose the gloves were off. That goose is my baby. Her wing is hurt, so she's going to the vet and he's paying for it. This time I'm also making him pay for the birds the dog killed too. I was very nice the first time. This time not so much. I even made sure to get pictures of his dog with the dead birds so if I have to take this further, I can. I've been nice enough and this is ridiculous. Metella, if you're reading this, one of the birds killed was the blue marans I had for you.
Pyxis I am sorry this happened to you and I hope you figure out something .

I wish I could have been at the fair with everyone but I was getting the boy settled in for college. I miss him already. Wish he would have picked a college closer.
My broody orpington is sitting on 7 eggs but I think it may be more now as she got out this morning to eat and drink and I think the other hens went in there and layed some eggs. Not sure what to do about that situation although their is more nesting boxes the 5 of them always use just the one.

Morning all. After a lengthy soak in the hot tub, roger got so relaxed he fell apart. He decided on some broccoli and pasta to go with him. He was very tasty. Bill is now in the big coop along with the two red girls. We moved them in last night after dark. He is busy trying to establish himself with the terrorist girls. They are going to give him a real run for his money. The red girls are holding their own and there is the usual pecking and chasing as the order is being reestablished. Flow went back in the divas coop and all seems well there this morning. I think they are relieved that Bill is now the terrorists problem! He has shown respect for both my dh and I in not challenging us and running away as we approach. Dh is also not allowing him to mount the hens in his presence. Heres hoping he stays that way. Finally getting a little rain this morning which is good because we need it. Off to another long day. Hope everyone has a good one!

YUM!!

Pyxis, am thinking of your complicated situation, and wonder if a camera mounted to cover the coops etc would be a good investment. The police may choose to ignore laxness in dog restraint, but trespass, theft, criminal mischief, animal cruelty...etc they could not ignore.

Gramma, Coda is a neutered male, and has gone home to my son, Bella is a neutered female who is not likely to play with coyotes. She would sometimes refuse to continue on a trail in the woods, and urgently require me to follow her home. I trust her in these situations. Am making the call to a friend who hae offered to help me obtain and learn to safely maintain and use a gulp, gun. Today.

Well hmm so far only one of my chicks looks like it is an ee. I have had 3 brown eggs and 1 white leghorn egg hatch. All the chicks are yellow pinkish legs except this last brown egg. It is black with dark legs. None look like the pics of easter eggers that I see online I really hope none of my other roos got ahold of any of the hens. But I don't think they did seeing no feathed feet or dark skin so cochins or silkie didn't father them. Maybe they getting they're skin color traits from mothers? I was hopeing for the chipmunk looking eyes on my ee's or does that maybe come later? I hope more get hatching 4 out of 27 eggs aint good. 2 was double yolkers I think so don't think they will hatch.

I think I need to drill another vent in my bator that I can open as chicks hatch I started with humidity at 60 and now fighting to keep it in the 70's. As they hatch it just jumps like no other.

From what ya'll are saying about the fair's chickens glad I didn't go up there to see it. Is there any nice birds being showen any where this year??

well I can't find it now but someone said coyote's and BB gun. Umm, NO.

Rifle, a .22 will work if you are a really good shot. A 22wmr also known as a .22 mag with coyote rounds works great. A .223, 22 hornet, or any other 22 caliber center fire round is even better. Coyotes are small but not so small that you don't need a real weapon. I can tell you from experience a .308 deer rifle puts them down on the spot. A BB gun will barely kill a chipmunk. It will do nothing to a coyote. Chances are the BB won't even reach the target to begin with.

Stony, and others, the BB gun came into the conversation because we have used it to warn creatures away. At the time I used it to train the crows it only made sound, didn't shoot anything. As we had nothing else, my husband hoped the now functional bb gun would trigger the Holy whatever, those sounds are dangerous response in the clever coyotes brain.

phhppp ...the sound of a BB gun might make a yote laugh, might make it more curious, but will do nothing of any importance. A coyote understands killing and being dead. You need to kill it, them. Save the BB gun for a child learning to shoot.

You know- I try to keep up with this thread but it seems almost impossible.

SO has anybody seen or heard of anybody seeing 2 lost dogs? A 12 year old yellow lab (Yeller) and a 4 month old chocolate lab (Ivan). Both boys. They ran off on Thursday and haven't been seen since. If anybody heres of them can you let me know.

And Max seems to always be in the way no matter what your doing-
