NY chicken lover!!!!

1/2 & 1/2 Comb looks like a pullet ...wattle looks like a Roo..what is its temperament ? Is it docile ? or did it fight you ? probably a pullet

Well Limpy was a Roo ...We processed 3 of our Roos today .
I cant see paying someone to do it ...even though it traumatizes me ..
which it does alot ..I shed tears for them & miss them ..I get too attached I guess .
It will be alot quieter tomorrow & food will last a little longer ...2 of them weighed 4 1/2 pounds after processing
Im sure the young hens will appreciate the peace ...young Roos are always trying to grab them ..

I've had chickens & turkeys together without a problem. As I understand it, it has to be in the ground. The chickens pick it up and it doesn't affect them, but then it can be passed to the turkeys. I have talked to several people who have them together around the state, and they don't have a problem. I wonder if our winters kill it off. It seems to be more prevelent in the southern states.

Anyone ever use one of these http://www.amazon.com/Fox-Run-Egg-P...=1364645996&sr=8-1&keywords=egg+piercing+tool I came across it as I was looking on how to hard boil fresh eggs and found this site http://www.rurallyscrewed.com/15551/2013/03/29/eggs-friday-how-to-hard-boil-a-super-farm-fresh-egg/ .

I'm going to try the pin prick and see if it works then I may buy one of those things to make it easier and faster. Wife wont hard boil any eggs any more.

Actually trying the easier method of steaming them. Eggs are probably 4 days old but I've had problems with them before that old so see how this works let ya know in 25.

Thanks good to know. I was hopeing since I just started this year nothing deadly would be in ground or in the chickens yet. I've been keeping an eye on the turkey's poo I guess it goes yellow/sulfur colored when they get it. One person on here said they treated with cayenne pepper flakes in food like whole bottle.

If this goes good I will have to look for turkeys to raise wife already wants some so I just have to pick a breed since I don't want to buy turkeys every year.

thanks. Butchering season is upon us. I have been killing my own food for a long time. Thought I'd share my thoughts on it all.

Yeah we don't do it yet probably next year i'll get up to it. As of now we take easy way out and go have the amish do it. They charge like 1.25 a bird so when we need more done we will have to own up to it. We only had like 5 roosters and grandparents paid for it since they ate the birds. It was my bantams and silkies the kids liked but all but one silkie was a roo so they had to go.
