NY chicken lover!!!!

Sorry about your chicken desiree.

Well the eggs didnt turn out too bad still not aseasy as store eggs. The membrane didnt want to leave egg even after shell was off had to roll/peel membrane off. Also yhe egg was rubbery had to cook for 35ish min just to get yolk starting to shade greenish.i know thats over cooked but how i was raised to tell if done. I hade getting softer yolks that middle aint done all the way so i over do them.

Anyone know if you can use the blue or red pallets for a coop. They have blocks instead of boards raising the top of pallet up. Trying to make cheap coop but supplys are limited atm.

I thought that I read that it isn't good to keep Turkeys and chickens together? Something about black head disease? Does anyone else have turkeys? I was thinking that in the future I might like to get some.

I always had my turkeys and chickens together. I called my county agriculture office and asked them about Blackhead. I was told that there hadn't been any outbreaks in my area. She said that many people raise them together. My only problem with having them in the same pen is that after 6 months or so, the hens would stomp my chickens. sue

County Boy,

Terrific pics! Amazing how your chickens seem to be sporting autumn plumage and coordinate with the falling leaves. Stunning birds.

Featherz and Miquwid,

Enjoyed your adorable pictures very much! Thanks for sharing them. It's so neat to see other people's birds and cute critters.

While driving back home from an errand today, I saw a very thin and pathetic looking juvenile fox. Poor thing had an advanced case of mange, especially along its hind end, but was still trying to hunt for grasshoppers along the roadside. I don't imagine it will last too long in the shape it was in.

Managed to pick up a sore throat and cold. Yuck. Back to school always brings the germs to our house.

Take care all.

Well, Oscar was a stud in the coop but a dud in the pot.
I cooked him in the pressure cooker. After cooking, dh deboned him. There was about 1 cup of meat on him.
I'm sure the hens will happily gobble him up in the morning. They need the protein to help grow their feathers back.

Ugh, I'm not ready for Christmas shopping yet, although I do have a couple presents bought already. Little girl wants to be a ballet princess, with glass slippers, a crown and a pink dress for Halloween. Not quiet sure where this came from, she is only 3. This may end our family dress up.

I've also always kept turkeys and chickens together, the biggest problem I've had are turkeys breaking the chicken eggs when they are laying or broody....they weigh a lot more than a chicken!
