NY chicken lover!!!!

Thank you. will try peroxide x baking soda. Dog is up to date on shots. Have never seen a skunk in daytime that is why I SSSed him. Plus it sprayed me. Oh and the dog. 40 years old and this is my first time. Once is enough!!!!!!

Afternoon All,
Well I have decided to set the bator one last time. This time I mean it! LOL 10 eggs, 4 of which are BO eggs with the splash orp roo. It'll be nice to see what I get from that. Still waiting for my lavender silkie hen to lay. Going on 6 months old now this month. Today I found her up in the coop just hanging out, she better not even THINK about going broody before giving me an egg! My little splash silkie is starting to look nice. Getting more and more of the "splash" markings in now.

Before I forget, someone on CL has 15 chickens they are looking to get rid of for $40, of course he wants them ALL to go together. One of them is a polish frizzle bantam roo. I remember someone on here looking for some of those. A majority were RIRs. But whoever wanted the polish frizzle could try emailing him anyway?

Afternoon all! Washed 8 silkies today and ended up gettin a bath myself! They are drying in the sun out front in puppy pens. Pedicures this weekend. I think the others are glad that I dont bath them. They were awful quiet while I was doing it. I think they were trying to avoid giving me ideas.

Lynzi--your silkie wont fully color out until 8 or 9 months ol. That seems to be when the final markings and coloring is set. My experience anyways. Oh...dont hold your breath waiting for that silkie to lay either. Little wenches like to take their time!

Sorry about the skunk! I know how sickening their stench can be. Good luck.

Like that Stony. I cak always count on you to hook me up!

Time to go do more laundry and feed everyone. Have a good evening!

I haven't been on in a while but I need help. Does anyone know how to lessen skunk smell. I just had one in my run that my roo cornered. I got it out then it went to the dog, now I don't have to worry about the skunk but how do I lessen the smell? IT IS MAKING ME SICK!!!! ANY AND ALL HELP IS WELCOMED!!!!!! It got me and the dog before SSS.

The key to skunk smell is to neutralize the oder molecules before it hits water. The oder molecules are designed to multiply when in contact with water, I believe it has to do with the complex structure that it has. Anyway a neutralizer like white vingear first will help with that. Baking Soda and Detergent like Dawn will help as well because those too cut the oils so well. After that your going to want to bath the dog a good conditioner.

White vinegar can be used around the coop as well. but some items it's hard to get the smell out.

Good luck.

I agree with gramma chick on all that. natures miracle stuff works well, I keep it handy here, my husband used it on himself also one time for skunk smell (and the dog) usually your local pet store carries the natures miracle. we have an ace hardware that carries it. also I have had luck lighting matches in the house just to cut the smell in the air(something to do with the sulfer in the match) just carry around a glass of water to stick the match in once it burns for a few seconds.(safer)

I called about getting the 4 roosters processed, will cost $30. Yep, going to find an Amish guy to do it or give them away and buy store bought roasters for cheaper.

That's what I read, thats why I'm getting excited he's finally getting some "spots" of splash in his feathers. Pretty sure this one is a cockerel still, he's three months old and has those streamer like feathers sticking out the back of his crest. Just hoping I can leave him in with the silkies knowing there is another roo in there.

If not he may have to go. I'd really like to bath the silkies before winter comes. Maybe I'll do that this weekend while DH is off to entertain the kids while I get them all done. I'd like to give the white frizzle a bath too, she just can't seem to stay clean.
