NY chicken lover!!!!

Can you rent incubators? The kids and I have talked about hatching out some chicks in the spring, but if I don't have a broody, we will have to incubate them. I don't want to do it that often maybe just this one time. I don't want to make the investment in buying one or building one if I'm only going to use it one or two times. Maybe I'll have to see is someone will do it for us, but that takes all the fun out of actually watching them hatch out here at home.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Everyone had a great time here. Went to my moms this year. It was nice to take a break for this year. I convinced Mom that she should give me the bones for the chickens instead of making soup this year. The chickens thanks her.

Chickens enjoying their Thanksgiving!

Dogs enjoyed some with their dinner too!

You will see a lot of buttons at the top of the "Reply" page. Source, Normal, Size, A, B, I, U, S, x2, x2 etc. etc. The mountains and moon icon is on the right side.

TOB my BCM Sophie has become very vocal as she gets older. O love her personality as well, she doesn't pick on her tot siblings at all. And I agree I'm jealous they don't have to shave their legs lol must wait till she molts those feathers come off them and she will look stubbly there lol

As for dogs and rodents. My bear and lily have taken care of my squirrel population (they stay outside the dogs boundary now) and bunnies no longer come around after 2 springs of Lily finding nests and bringing be the babies

. Chipmunks are faster so they are ok but mice and moles are doa if found by them dogs as well.

I saw the black cat out near the back hoop coop when I went out this evening. Large so it might be what has been leaving the foot prints. I called to it and it mewed but didn't come and I didn't push to get it too.

Have I mentioned the Turkey's? They're pretty big. There is some building going on down the road so they may have gotten forced out and have moved my way. I don't see much cover for them back near the creek.

OK hatchers, the question is incubating duck and chicken eggs together. If I start ducks a week early and then add some chicken eggs after the first 7 days do you think it will work. I always lock down the duck eggs at the same humidity as chickens, although this time I'm upping the humidity at lock down since I had a few that should have hatched get shrink wrapped. They're all my eggs so I really have nothing to lose.

Eta, the lone chick is doing fine under Broom Hilda. I'm at a complete loss as to what happened to the other 2. I can't imagine she killed them purposely and let the other one live, but I guess anything is possible.
