Those have got to be some of the darkest most beautiful eggs I have ever seen!

Muggs, how goes the hatching for the ducks? Tried it and did okay but not really great - if you get some Saxony or Silver Appleyard let me know - I'll even take a couple of the others! Love the ducks and can add them to my duck pen! We need to get together anyway for those gals and all you're holding for me.

Tgrlily I PM'd you back earlier tonight - was offsite all day trying to get more of the dang yard in order for the Sale of the house - with about two acres in yard, chicken, pig, duck and cow areas along with all my gardens and paths in the woods I'm dizzy with all this! BTW, the daughter allowed me to get up after the first set of color while it is is percolating to get back on line. Kids can by such Tyrants as they get older

She thinks I'm chicken nuts anyway.

I love the idea of working for chickens that is SWEET! Sign me up - Rancher - some of my dellie babies are getting huge and are getting to be like little teenagers - too funny! I had the pen open to let the bantam cochins back in and two of the dellies along with one of the Black Jersey Giants Kept trying to come out and were actually insulted when I shooed them back in FOUR times!

Man, you guys have great acreage - I need some!

BTW, if anyone nearby would like some cow manure that is not overly aged but still old enough for this year's garden come on over - $10.00 for a truckbed load. I have lots and it is starting to stink - their yard is starting to look bad and Chuck and Mongo the Steers are being troopers about it - of course they go to the butcher May the 4th and I will be in NC looking at homes and feel really bad! They mooed for me to come to the fence and give them rubs and kisses. I HATE IT - but at least they will have had a super great life and will be gone when I get back

Two BIG pigs going too at the same time -they like their scratches but I wont miss them! The Roos need down-sizing a bit and I almost went in there and rang ALL of their necks today - it was like a case of chicken "Marco Polo" between the four for a while.

Time to finish my "kamikaze" my daughter talked me into buying (fortifier for who know what color I'll end up with

) just kidding relazing, hubby fell asleep on the couch and all is QUIET outside and in the house. Time to go check the hair color!

If the typing sucks sorry, I can read and do things without my glasses but for working on the computer I should have them on so I'm sure there are a few typos since I can't have them on right now!

Man!!!! Has anyone been outside to try to do some work today???
ep.gif
I don't about where you all are but I went outside three times to try to work and the wind is crazy here and it's cold. I certainly don't like the wind patterns we're having up here - a lot of updrafting with these heavy gusts. Very chilly out there too!

Chickens were wanting out but I've already been by there pens a couple times and told them no way. Cleaned up the baby chick area this morning - they were too funny since they are soooo small yet. I have about 10 barred rock eggs that went into lockdown yesterday. Hope they all come out okay or at least half of them! The next 70 eggs go into lockdown around the 26th of April - enough time to get the barred hatched, fluffed and steady on their feet before the next set comes along.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday - stay in if you can!

Sorry, can't reply. My fingers are in gloves and my hat is pulled down over my eyes. BRRRRrrrr...but the chicken play pen has be be built before the rain....they have been cooped up (literally) for a full week now. They HATE it.

Ooooohhhh - I bet you have gotten and are getting some SERIOUS Stink eye and muttering out of that! Stay warm and have a nice hot cup of cocoa or coffee when you get back in. Sounds like make some stew or soup and take a nap when you get done!

We did some yard work and discussed the next coop area but that is as far as we got.

Hang in there!

They'll love you for it when it's done.

It's 3:40 and I am DONE...that is not to say the job is finished, but when you can't feel your toes any more and the chickens are secure in the coop, it's time to quit. All that is left to do is top for the play pen and something to keep the door from acting like a guillotine on the ladies necks when they try to get out.

Fire is lit, HBO is having a free weekend. Soon I'll be warm. Life is good.

BTW the ladies only laid ONE egg in the past 72 hours. Seems that pounding on their roof (to finish shingles before rainy weekend) stresses them so much they can't lay...but let them outside for 10 mintues and 20 minutes later you have an egg. Silly ladies.

The wind is blowing and it is RAW outside. Went out and measured the barn so we can order what we need to make a big coop. Should be beautiful with a 1/4 acre fenced in area for them to excersise in. There will also be a small coop and run in case we need to seperate any group of birds. Lots of work to do, but not outside today. Instead we all made brownies and cleaned the chicks and juvies. My boys had two of the orp cockrels out and spent some time with them while I cleaned their brooder. They are such calm birds.

Doris is wondering when her little juvies are coming back out to visit her. She doesn't seem understanding about it being too cold for them. Maybe next week.

Time to vaccume...yay.

Happy Country Hens

we dug a trench today to run wiring out to one of our coops and then it started raining and winding and and and.. We got the wire underground and ran in. Thankfully all the chickens wanted to go in also so they aren't out huddled under a bush or something. Argh! I had a lot I wanted to get done this weekend. grr.

Plus I had planned to move the two week old chicks out to the barn, but it's still below 50 in there. Need it to be 50ish so the ecoglows will be enough, but if it doesn't get a few degrees higher soon, I'll just have to add a heatlamp. They are outgrowing the brooder in the bedroom!
