Oooh...what will ya have.....
Do tell!
I will have mixes from Sonew and Lovinmypeeps that are free to good homes (I just want one or two each for myself). Nat's are Crested magpies x Khaki/Runners (should be great layers!) and Kristen's are Crested Cayugas (I picture great layers, fun personality!). I've been wanting to hatch from both since October and finally got the chance in March! So...just a few more days and we should be hatching ducklings.
I have some from McMurray that I'll need to let go. I bought 12 assorted...Rouen, Runners, Cayuga, Buff, Golden Hybrid and Blue Swedish. Then next week we have an order from Holderread's coming...Welsh Harlequin and Saxony! AND...I'm hatching BBS Cayuga, various Call Ducks, and Silver Appleyards due in 9 days! Holy Moly! (This doesn't include the 9 Mallards I'm hatching for a local woman!)
The thing is...I dove into this duck thing, like I did the chickens. Ordered a little bit of everything to see what I liked. Being new to ducks, I didn't realize how stanky they are!
Now I know, and also realize they will not all be staying with me! I really hope I like the Welsh Harlequins and Saxony. They are so cute to look at!
If I can get over the hurdle of eating my own chickens (I'm not there yet) then I'd like to
try to raise some of these ducks to eat. I think.
Haven't tried the chickens yet..that will be this Sunday's dinner! Ducks...sooo not happenin'! They're so cute...chickens...pretty..but the roos...young, randy roos, especially when you have so many they make you wanna wring their necks yourself...make good dinners! LOL Let me know if you want to sell a couple of the Call's....although I think Cydney83 would deck me one! LOL I am only planning on 6 ducks..that would put me at my limit, quite nicely! Don't want to go too crazy, cuz I still got to provide housing and a pond. Found a liner at HD for 37.00 for a 7x9 pond. Now I'm researching filters...
Sometimes...I find myself shaking my head and saying..."why, oh why do I do this to myself".....LOL
Thanks!!!
