NY chicken lover!!!!

Lindsay, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ADDITION TO YOUR FLOCK. I am jealous. I think the Splash Rooster looks a bit like my Splash Rooster Carlos. AND your hens.....unique quality.

You got them from a gal in Cobleskill.....yes? You are quite the gal traveler that locates
fine stock. Regards, Aria

Lynzi I have a rooster and 2 hens that look just like your splash they are beautiful plus I have some blue hens and a rooster. My silkies are such goofs they follow you around like dogs. The minute they see you they all come running and then while I am feeding all the animals I have a pack of silkies waddling as fast as they can to keep up.

Thats exactly how all my bantams are now! I have faux fur on the top of my winter boots and I swear they think it's like a Mama Hen or something coming to feed them because they follow me and just continuously look at that fur! LOL I can't even step into the run anymore because I'll end up stepping on one of them. and they've only been out in that run/coop for a couple of weeks now.

Wow, loving the baby pictures, and those wildlife pictures are incredible! The new silkies are great, very pretty. Love the new coop.

I am soaking Earl's foot, and cleaning it each time, hoping to raise its level of cleanliness and get him used to my attention. Am accumulating stuff to use when I attack that bump. It is hard as a rock, so am not sure how this will go. The clean part is hard, after my care Today, I felt sorry for him and let him out to talk to the girls through the fence. So he got dirty again, but I cleaned out the dog crate...one step forward, another back.

Am looking forward to a nice day tomorrow. It was nice to see Stony's dinner...

I need to start working on my duck's foot. What on earth should I do to keep from him moving while I soak his foot? Or am I really going to have to sit there with him and just hold him while it soaks? LOL

You might be on to something I wear boots that have fur on the top maybe they think we are just a severe molting momma bird. LOL!

Couldn't you put the water in a bigger tote and let him swim around in it? His feet would be in the water while he was swimming.

That's a good idea...I just worry about him jumping out. It's so cold out I'd like to bring him in to do this if possible. Maybe I'll just let him float a while in my bathtub and close the curtain. LOL

Evening all. Spring fever must have hit because we were slammin in the store. Nonstop people. Bought some red heat bulbs from petsmart but am not happy with them so they are going back. The two chicks were out and about in the brooder and I watched for a while and nobody was really picking on them. So I let them be. No sign yet of the silkie eggs hatching. I did get another egg from the blue pen so that makes me happy. I pull in the driveway and open my trunk to take out my plastic bag of stuff and the terrorists see me with it and come running. They always thing they are getting something...bunch of nagging raptors!

Nutty--these chicks will be my first real heritage lines that I will have. Thelma and Louise were supposed to be the real deal but are not quite. They are, however, the most personable, indestructable and foragers that I have ever had. The breeder I got these two lines from told me that his follow him around like pups and lay great eggs with great feed conversion. I will let you know how mine turn out. I am keeping records on these chicks.

Lynzi--nice looking silkies!

Later all.

Gorgeous Shots TOB!!! Were you one of the photographers I passed this morning on Route 20 on my way to Cobleskill? ;-) I passed this pond/lake after Caz, after Morrisville somewhere there had to be at least 10 photographers out in front it and another three walking towards them. Must have been something good in that lake worth photographing!

Hi and thanks, Lynzi.

No.... I wasn't among those shutterbugs! I like to avoid the crowds, lol. I wonder what they'd discovered? Lots of great migratory species passing through &/or returning now. It's an exciting time if you're into birding. The only problem is finding the time to get out there!

I'd like to get to Montezuma, but haven't been there since last year.

Well I just performed a semi-surgery on my drake! I'm going to need DH's help tomorrow for the last bit of it. I just couldn't hold him AND pick at this thing at the same time any longer. I managed to the get the foot he hasn't been limping on cleared up, started getting at the smaller "sores" on his other foot and can definitely tell THAT is the foot that is bothering him. So since he was wiggling so much I didn't want to pursue any further with out the help of some more hands. He's in the shed tonight in a bin/cage since his feet are all wrapped up. Silkies aren't too happy about that!
