Your
grey birds are good stock ...the 2nd one is broody now ...
She growls but she doesnt peck...you can move her eggs or pet her .
Do you see your hens turn their eggs ? I havent seen either of these do this TT my Sumatra - Ive seen her turn her eggs

Thanks to everyone who responded to my "broody question." I am going to just try to gently but firmly remove her from the box each day. Once I do this, she seems to go about her day. She is eating and drinking and keeping her weight so far. I already have one weak link in the chain (my picked-on Brabanter) and I don't want any fragile chicks. Especially during our crazy-busy summer schedule.

Fragile chicks ? Do you have a Rooster now ?
Gotta have a Papa to have a baby ....LOL

Lots going on over here. Marans eggs locked down today and tomorrow turkeys and ducks, although I have my doubts the ducks will hatch. The air cells are too small as they too were in the LG. We'll see how they do. I also plan to start the coop for my cemanis this weekend so that will be fun. And some pictures of some of my babies!

@sunnysideupstateny and metella...i live in Mississippi for 7 months a few years back and it was 7 months too long. I was either white or a yankee. Or my favorite was "are you under cover?" I couldnt win no matter which way i turned. And finding a job? Forget it. My ny state license wasnt getting me any where. It wont bother me one bit if i never go below the mason dixon line ever again.

Those little guys are just adorable. I just wanna hug em and pet em. Lol

Mason Dixon Line ! ha ha I barely knew what that was - and gave a whoop of joy when I crossed back over.

Now - it seems I am bashing the south, maybe I am .... but I am low key thoughtful neighbor - quiet, no music or lots of cars in and out - I wave, I share goodies. I DO keep my animals on my property. But there is a large portion of people there that really REALLY do think they are being suppressed and literally HATE the north. I wonder what they brainwash t.... um.... tell themselves about the mid-west and California coast ????

It was flat out weird. So people moving down there may stick together in the larger cities - but out in the lovely countryside is no place for a non-southerner to be. A deep lake holding a few skeletons was pointed out to me twice. *shudder*

Morning all. Sad news to report. I checked on the eggs last night under my broody silkies and they were all dead. I opened them all and no internal pips. They look like they all died right before hatch. So I have lost 6 silkie babies. These girls have successfully hatched and raised chicks for me before so I dont hold them accountable. This year has been frustrating for me hatching silkie eggs. Eowyn is sitting on one egg and I am hoping it hatches. She still has a few more days. She hatched and raised two broods of chicks last year, one brood of which Lynzi and Chris were the recipients of the results. I do have silkie eggs in my bator that I had gotten from Jeff and I do have the six chicks downstairs that I hatched out from the same pen that the loss occured in .Hopefully I have a good hatch and can then go from there. My breeding groups are small so any losses are hard because you have to hatch a lot to keep a few.

On a happier note the brats/monsters are growing like weeds and looks like I have more pullets than what I though I had. Thats a good thing because I am sure a few of my hens arent laying. As soon as the newbies start laying, the slackers will be going to canning camp. Cant afford to feed non producers as I have egg customers to keep happy.

Raining again because we need more rain....not. My vege plants need some sun! I think my plum tree is dying because we have had so much rain. I also wanted to go strawberry picking as well but thats not happening either.

All this talk about the south is killer. We are looking to move down there somewhere. Have to get out of NY. My daughter, who lives in GA, seems to like it very much and my bil has lived down there over 20 years (though to be fare, he married a southern girl). Maybe we will get lucky and find a nice quiet place.

Off to the pharm for more insanity today. There is a full moon on friday so this week has been a reflection of that. Have a good day everyone!

Oh Pharm I'm so sorry about the eggs! I know how frustrating it is. So odd that they didn't hatch under broodies tho. Hmmm...
I haven't has much luck either this year. I'm hoping the eggs your hen is giving me now will make a turn around for me. I'd really like just few more silkies in my pen since I only got 4 sizzles out of all those hatching eggs I got from CA.
