NY chicken lover!!!!

Just in from weeding up by the road. I still have lots more to do up there, but now you can sort of tell that there is a line of forsythia and day lilies. Gotta go back to get the seedlings out and the grapevines, and take the torch to them! But I will save that fun for another early morning. Now I can plant grass seed and scatter straw in the areas affected by the building of the great wall. And there are the chickens to feed and referee...and the final hilling of the potatoes! After that, a soak in the tub.

Edited to correct the auto correct!

I have heard and even tried, with great success, taking a zinc suppliment daily during the summer/bug months keeps the bugs from biting as much. I started taking it 2 weeks before I went north to a camp on a lake....I only got bit ONCE the whole time I was there and that was just a lucky bug who ran into me. It seems that the zinc makes you smell different ...not to meantion it is good for your immune system. Someone try it and let us know if you have the same results I did. As I recall zinc wasn't that expensive and you only need take one each morning so a bottle goes a long way.

I don't have a huge problem with the skeeters (since I got sick anyway) but the TICKS love me. I have picked 5 of them off me and I don't EVER go in the woods....none attatched, just were crawling on my neck, arm and leg. Oh and one was IN my bra, little perv. LOL
i just watched a show called 20 animals that will kill you and the miskeeto [i no nice spelling ] is the top killer ..it also said they tend to attack people with o-type blood the most ..i guess its sweeter to them ..
we also have used dryer sheets to repeal those little nite time killers..carry them in your pocket and rub them all over your open skin..

Morning Everyone!

Today I'm going to finish weeding the gardens, wash some dishes, laundry. DH cleaned out the juvenile pens Friday. We're using the dirty shavings between the rows in my garden to keep the weeds down and then we till them in in the fall.
coop cleanings make great mulch for the garden. I used them to mulch shrubs and trees.

OK - let's have a skeeter tasting contest ....

They like me so much that ....

I get bit through JEANS ... and mostly on the butt - which I guess is the Jean area that is tightest to the skin ???

I think you win, Metalla! I have type O positive blood, and Mosquitos find me tasty, but they leave me alone if I'm with my husband. Around here he is the food of choice, but not through jeans! On the other hand fleas will leave anyone else to feast on me. We are pretty careful about flea prevention.

Time got away from me & I haven't made it on this thread in a few days. So I'm over 200 posts behind, yikes! Hope everyone is doing well.

Is anyone still hatching eggs right now? Like possibly hatched out a few chicks this weekend?:fl. I attempted shipped eggs again (guess I should know better) and only 1 hatched:(. So I have a lonely hatchling who needs a sibling or two. He/she is a medium sized leghorn-type bird. I'd be happy w any type of chick hatched within the last 5 days.

I'm just north of Watkins glen & would drive an hour plus to pick up. Thanks!!

I am in Ava I just hatched some RIR last Monday so they are 6 days old but unfortunately I am over 2 hours from you

On the Mosquito front, I had one pester me last night and I feared got swatted into my ear. If so he died for sure. Anyhow I spray down good with repellant.

Saw a tick today while mowing grass. I only wear long pants around here. My legs are so white they look like snow. I'm sure you've seen better legs on bar stools.

AUCTION!
Beginning bid is $12
Auction begins immediately. Auction ends Sunday at 6 p.m.

Have a look these are nice squares and I did bid on them but not nearly enough. I plan to use some in matted frames to hang on the wall. That said, I'd like to bid more but can't so if someone else can feel free.

DW is losing her hair big time but I don't mention it. She's also lost weight. She's only three weeks into treatments.

Phore - I do have chicks but too, I am too far. A chick that is only a few days older should do all right with yours. I've stuck chicks into the brood with my broody hen and he seems to be doing just fine. Gets right in with mom, like she hatched him.

My Sussex will brood puppies I swear. She's so easy.

Well I'm off to whack some weeds. I get so messy I do it late, cuz it's strip and shower afterwards.

ta, ta for now,

Rancher
