NY chicken lover!!!!

Do you compost them first or are you putting them right in to the garden/trees. I thought that the poop would burn the plants. I can see that being very good for the weeds, but I'd be afraid that it would kill my other plants.

I didn't compost them. I hoe raised rows (hills) and plant my veggies in them. I put the cleanings in the depression between rows and then they are tilled in at the end of the season. I don't put the cleanings directly on the plants. The hills help keep your plants from drowning if you have wetter ground or get a season with too much rain.

Hey everyone,

Rain is nasty. I did manage to weed whack the garden yesterday, though the line kept giving me heck. I'd hit something and have to add another or if I found the one that flew off, pick it up and put it back on.

Another chick hatched in the large hoop, EE, under a BR hen. I promptly took it and gave it to the sussex. She seemed like she didn't care. I'll have to keep checking for more and then it's over.

I will be setting up the incu so there may be chicks hatch while the grandchildren are here. Mostly Dels and Cottonbuds. I"d like to hatch Frenchy's but hers aren't fertile.

Perhaps if I put her with Shorty he and she might dance together.

Got a double yolker from the Dels yesterday. Tasted good.

Pharm - Congrats you're a grandma!! ;-)

Woke up this morning to this little chickadee! It pipped yesterday morning. The other egg that was lockdown with it pipped last night so I should have another tonight. Now what's really weird is this chick hatched with pin feathers already on its wings. Anyone else ever had a chick like that? I just find it weird. I've never had a chick hatch like that-ever!

I grabbed the Lt brahma thats been slow to feather in.. Ive noticed over the last few days its comb seems to be redder than the rest.. Roo is coming to mind even though they were suppose to be all pullets.. Heres some pics.. Whatcha think.. If its a roo.. Depending on what the family wants to do.. It maybe up for grabs.. We wanted pets/eggs.. No babies..

Well now some birds do mature early. Perhaps you can find someone who will trade you for him.
