NY chicken lover!!!!

New chicks are doing great. Looks like the other eggs should be hatching tomorrow. There were 2 that were just starting to pip late this afternoon.

The other ones need to hatch soon. This morning I thought that one went missing, but then I checked under my other broody and she has stole it, but I love that they are doing a great job co-parenting.

Checked under my last broody. She has the 2 duck eggs that I gave her. I'm thinking about putting some LF eggs under her. Not sure, but if I do I need to do it tomorrow or Tuesday so they will all hatch together. Not sure where I would get the eggs. I am barley making it by with what I am getting and my few customers can't spare any to hatch...Anybody got a few fertile eggs close by that they want to sell on the cheaper side?..maybe trade for something?

My poor little mutts

You can ask anyone....mutts make the nicest birds and best layers.

Morning Everyone,
We're pretty much all moved in! Just have a few boxes left here and there that really just contain junk that I don't know what to do with.

Those will end up in the basement. I need to get some kind of cabinet/organizer for all this little misc stuff that I used to store in our laundry room/pantry for the kids - arts n craft supplies, paints, coloring books, etc. Met the neighbor across the street yesterday. They're just season residents so they spend most of the summer, live 30 mins away from here and then they go back to their other house to work, come back on some weekends when they have the time. Very nice woman (it was only the wife). I was telling her how I raised chickens where we came from and she's going to check with her sister that lives close by to see if she knows of anyone who would help me out with raising them. I also have to call my friend back today and see if he was able to talk to his friend. Gotta find the elementary school today and stop in to get registration paperwork for the kids etc. Also need to find a feed store or TS to get some shavings for these bunnies. They're carrier is getting dirty and they're hutch isn't getting delivered until Wednesday. We went out to the Petco and bought a round pen so I could at least let them out during the day one at a time and let them stretch their legs and what not. Missing my cheeps. It's soooooooooo quiet here. But everyone is friendly. We're not used to having neighbors so close by , everyone that walks by in the morning says hello/good morning. It's going to be an adjustment, even for the dog - barking at everything that passes by. Hope everyone is well...sorry if I missed anything, haven't really been reading, just skimming thru quick when I have a min.

it sounds like you are adjusting ...it would be quiet without chickens ...I hope I never need to know that !

I could spare a few eggs if you don't find any. They would be mutts. Main roo is GLW, also have a white EE and PRock roo around. Multiple hens. I can pick out some from tonight's collection, make sure you don't end up with small pullet eggs or funky shells.

I dont know if this occurred to anyone else ...that the chicken at the bottom of the pecking order may not get fed ?
My Goldie Passed a while back ...I know my roo would chase her away from food ...I didnt think to check if she was getting enough food .
Bruiser is now at the bottom of the pecking order . she hides out when they are in the coop ( roosts on the floor ) and at night she is one of the 1st to roost .
I checked her crop before bed & it was almost empty . so I brought her out + gave her some food.
I am going to check her each day from now on . Food For Thought !

Gramma, do you have the space to put food out in more than one spot? I have a pan of food that they all eat from and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the corner I have a small dish of food that most of the chickens ignore as they gobble up the big pan of food. HOWEVER the juvies in the coop know it is there and eat from the small dish. (I also throw a bit of food out on the ground each morning to give everyone a fighting chance at a few mouthfuls throughout the day)
