NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone know what kind of bush this is ?
I am sure I saw chickens eating it .It grows over my compost pile ..not sure if it is good for them

a couple weeks ago i seen my birds pulling thew the run fence , i think we called it deadly nightshade when i was a kid ..the plant with the red and green berrys on it..i cut it all back away ..i no they will eat every and anything it seems ..i dont no how you free rangers can control what they get into ..but i am sure the birds wouldnt eat something that would hurt them ..but then hay ya never no ..

It needs to be cleaned but I have been preoccupied. This is our temporary coop. The string pulls the door shut tight.

Closed door.

My second barricade has worked great!!!

Outside Kennel/run area (there is chain link on top also)

Trap in the back caught this little weasel.....

I can't believe this little mammal did so much carnage. I will reset the trap tonight... And they STINK!!!! when trapped. Smells like cat spray all around.

The nightshade I think you're referring to is a vine and has small red berries.

Pokeweed, Pokeberry. Once it appears it is hard to get rid off... Even if part of the root is left more will grow.

All weeds are hard to get rid of, the key, I believe it to get to them before the flower. Too by planting a ground cover and working to smother the weeds out.

Certain weeds are edible and I did talk to a woman the fair about doing a seminar on them. Lambsquarter is the one I remember since it's easy to recognize. There are others of course and some have to be picked at the right point of growth.

Burdock is a root that is edible but the leaves and stalk are not.

good for you demp..glad you caught the little booger..

Ditto here.

Now on the Squirrel front here.

I bought some new traps and one was this one. I set it and put it on top of the chicken run. Well yesterday I watched as squirrel and trap went running through the woods. Not sure if it was on it's head or foot and have not seen hide nor tail since.

Squirrel continued.

I also set a hav a heart with bait Rx ++ but it either got in and out with the bait or not. In either case both squirrels were running yesterday am. I did not see them this am, so perhaps they've met their demise.

I've been setting the usual rat traps but to no avail except I did find a small Red squirrel in one not knowing how long it had been there.

I did buy this trap so see if it would work better. I secured it to a piece of wood. It should make it harder to run off with. It was untouched this am. as was the hav a heart except for what looked like mouse pickings at the bait.

I don't have the bait in the picture.
