NY chicken lover!!!!

Me again for reviews.

Has anyone used either "Restore" or "Deckover" products? The reviews run 50/50, but some have pictures. Some of those pictures were used for "sweepstake entries" making the bad reviews more believable.

Thanks for tolerating me,

Rancher

Well I had to modify my chicken feeder ...It was too low to the ground ...they kept kicking up bedding / poop in the dishes ..
And it had a little place underneath where the food got stuck under from splatter & spoiled / molded ...
Wasted .....couldnt let them eat it when I found it .
so I put some legs on it
They can still kick stuff in it but a lot less ..LOL

Glad some basic carpentry skills came to the rescue - good for you, Gramma. The birds keep us changing and re-arranging! I eventually ended up hanging my outdoor feeder from a chain clipped to the roof of the pen. I originally had it on a cinder block, but it just got too dirty. It stays clean now. I still have the problem of the hens scattering crumbles around/below it. I have to keep an eye out that the scattered stuff doesn't mold. In wet weather, I've got to collect and dispose of it more often, even though there is a corrugate roof over the feeding area of the pen. It still gets damp. I've heard bad things about mold and chickens...

I can't believe this little mammal did so much carnage. I will reset the trap tonight... And they STINK!!!! when trapped. Smells like cat spray all around.
It seems to me they have scent glands ....Glad you Caught it Good Job ...

Yes mold can kill chickens ...
How is your little one doing ? She doesnt roost with the other chickens ? They are all in the coop right ?

Glad you got the culprit. Weasels are basically solitary animals, so hopefully you got the chief offender behind bars, relocated (or sent along to the great forest in the sky)???

I don't believe youngsters would still be with their mother at this point of the year. Young ones are weaned by a month-and-a-half after birth and hunting on their own within a few months of age....so hopefully, this isn't one of a family that still has more customers hoping for a pass-thru your KFC window...!!

Here's a silly photo of Gertrude, my Brabanter, taken today. I assure you she is not dead, but merely sun bathing, which she loves!!

Her cresty poof has grown back and her neck feathers are finally poking through. She really blends in with the autumn leaves! I am considering a mellow companion for her; since Chumley died, she has nobody...still debating with myself over the pros and cons of an addition at this point.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Funny, I just posted a pic of Gertie and then read your question. NO...she cannot even roost with the others. They terrorize her. She has been blinded in one eye and lost all the feathers on her head and neck. I finally gave up after several attempts for the past year. Marquisella confirmed that if I continued the effort, she would eventually be killed, and I agree.

She lives in a kennel cage within the coop; free ranges when I can supervise.

It's a tough situation. I am considering a friend for her, but it would have to be the right match.

I do not look like that at the moment. I do have that pic up on other forums. I wonder how many people think that's actually me and never said anything? lol.

I have only 2 hens at the moment. Easter eggers. I do plan to get more in the near future.

Can someone elaborate on the wind chimes?

Does anyone know what kind of bush this is ?
I am sure I saw chickens eating it .It grows over my compost pile ..not sure if it is good for them

Yes, I have this plant. It IS poisionous. I would cut it down (and do, actually) before the berries form and tempt the chickens.

Now it is considered poisionous to humans...all parts of the plant are NOT ediable. Cut it down and burn it before the berries drop to the ground and you have a million more of them next year.

OMG! Reminds me of the 1st time I saw my Welsummer 'sunbathing' - 'bout had a heart attack I thought she was dead!! She's a very pretty bird, it's a shame the others don't like her.
On the predator front, Millie was giving me the low warning cluckcluck and I spied a dead rat in the outside coop! It was a good 6inches not including the tail. Must have gotten into the bait stations and had a good 'last supper'............

I'm thinking the noise from the wind chimes would maybe scare the vermin away.........doesn't seem to work on the rats' in my barn tho'. I have wind chimes hanging right by the barn.
