Thanks! hoping others will chime in......

I also have a few eggs in my brinsea advance EX right now - trying to get some more turken hens since it seems I got almost all roos on my last hatch.

I DO remove my clears since I am terrified of getting an egg bomb in my nice shiny clean incubator, but I think they do go dark before they go boom.

As for feed, I just put down chick starter. I use an ecoglow for heat and a nipple waterer which they figure out immediately. My last two hatches are being taken care of by my broodies, but no one is broody right now. Wish me luck that I get some girls on this hatch!

As for lockdown.. I incubate at 40% and up it to 60% at lockdown - have had excellent luck with this method. Strangely enough, no shrinkwrapping since I stopped trying to crank it to 80%! And with the brinsea, since it recovers so quickly, I DO open the incubator once a day to remove dried and fluffed chicks. It gets crowded in there if you don't - I've managed to stuff 30 eggs in mine!

I have been incubating at about 50%. I hope that it hasn't been too much. I plan on removing the clears tonight after candling. Now to raise the humidity, can I add a clean wet sponge to increase the water surface area? How would I add more water if needed, during lockdown? Oh goodness, lock down is Sunday! What is the purpose of lockdown?
Thanks!!
Ginny

Edited to add....Good luck with your hatch!!!

Thank you for your support in trying to help with my chick. We put Miss Chickie down today. There has been no improvement. We would have continued her nursing care had she made improvement. She was a tough chick with a bright twinkle in her eye and an amazingly loud peep. She just needed a body that worked better.

Again, thank you.

yes, whole lawn was covered by huge hail, but good thing is the temp dropped almost 20 degrees. I ran out just when the hail stopped and both moms with chicks were in the coop. Whew! I could not count the chicks, but all the adults appear feisty and not panting for once.

Glad everyone seems ok. Those storms are scarey!

It went through West Winfield an hour or so ago. Dented cars and broke winshields. Thankfully, the storm bypassed our house - but it hit the town pretty hard.

Storms blowing through here right now. No hail , Yet. I wonder if the silkies would go in the coop if it DID hail? Seems they aren't bothered by thunder and lightening. I put them in, but not easily. Silly silkies.

Hope everyone and their chickens weather the weather safely.
