NY chicken lover!!!!

Well now I don't understand why folks downsize in winter if they need eggs.  I'm downsizing older girls who were never good layers to begin with.

Don't let folks force you to do more than you can handle.  ;)

My hint:  If you have to go multiple places and bring a dish. Make the same dish for every place.  Tabs Breakfast casserole is a good thing to make. It's really good anytime.  We haven't had it in a long time and I'd eat it.

Yes!!! I made deviled eggs for 3 stops as well as guacamole and chips:) easy peasy!

My girls are finally cranking out 12+ a day...I will be downsizing some in the Fall when I butcher my bresse...have to get rid of 5-7 non egg layers :(

Our twenty foot tall blowup santa ($60 at dollar general only paid $5 after Christmas how much is their markup!), needed some adjustments this morning when we turned him on. He was covered in bugs and slugs when he stood up so I let the girls out to play.

Santa with bugs & slugs what a video clip that made in my head ..LOL They must like REd

Any one else have muck pits in the front of the coop ?
I love that it isnt snowing ...dont care for the muck....though ..
I shoveled it out - the escaped bedding & mud ...muck ...nasty stuff ....And replaced it with this ...
2 x 4 s and stones I took from the garden ..I think it might drain better now

Yes. In front of one of the runs it's gets water. I took and dug a trench so the water drains away from the area. I already have a trench and drainage tile along the front of the coop. So I dug and made a trench so the water drains in that direction.

Of course if you have ducks it's good to dig and drain the water to make a nice puddle for them to play in. I've read ducks can make a mess with a tablespoon of water.

We still have snow on the ground, so no muck for us yet. It's always terrible in early spring though. I've had one leghorn pick up laying in the last four days, and she hasn't missed a day since she started. They're monster eggs too. Wouldn't you know she gives up laying because of shorter days, then picks up again on literally the shortest days of the year. Hens, who knows! Definitely not complaining about the eggs though. I have one egg customer who's been on me to get some eggs so she'll be happy.

Also, don't let anyone tell you you can't candle quail eggs! I was candling my eggs the other night and decided to, just for fun, candle the quail egg I had tossed in there to see what would happen. I saw a teeny tiny little embryo growing. So it can be done with a bright enough flashlight! Now let's just hope it hatches female because I need more hens. I picked up two more eggs today from the quails so I'll toss them in.

Lord have mercy you should see the water I've got here. I should have hung on to the Swedes. Though ducks are easy targets for predators and I've not fenced in that part of the yard. Perhaps next year.

Merry Christmas everyone!
My Christmas is all out of sorts and its making me anxious, didn't sleep well. My brother and his fiancé went to her family get together on Sunday, Monday night they started throwing up, ect. Her mom claims stomach bug, 5 other people are sick with it too. With that many people, someone sick handled the food improperly or it is food poisoning. They are feeling slightly better yesterday. So Christmas Eve at my house was cancelled. Got a call last night that my dad was now throwing up. So either he caught the bug from them or a separate case of food poisoning from eating at the trashy Ponderosa in Cortland yesterday. Got a phone call at 1am that they are taking dad to the hospital, he passed out from dehydration. More as a precaution and to get him some IV fluids. Christmas at my parents house is unlikely today. And I have a 4 year old that will be very disappointed, some of her santa presents are over there. She's been up since 5:30, but sent her back to bed to at least rest until a reasonable time.
*sigh* sorry for the downer post, hope everyone else has a great day!
ETA: talked to dad, he is in the 5th bag of IV fluids, not sure if he will be home today or tomorrow. He feels more awful for screwing up Christmas Day for little girl, but I talked with her this morning and she understands.

Sounds like food poisoning to me too...Sure is bad timing ..
Maybe you can all get together on Sat ...For Dinner & Presents .
Whats Important is that you spend Time with your family .

Good you could be honest with your girl ...honesty is the best policy with children .

Yeah, beside brother and fiancé, at least 5 others end up sick at the same time. Dad came home late this afternoon, 5 liters of fluid later. He had non-contagious stomach virus thing. So avoid Ponderosa! We are planning to have Christmas on Saturday. Just glad I don't have to worry about little girl getting it.
