NY chicken lover!!!!

Merry Christmas! I spent last night with my extended family and today had a nice dinner with my parents and brother. I got lots of goodies, one of my favorites being a top fill 5 gallon waterer for my chicks, so I can stop going out there twice a day just to do water! Hope everyone else is having a good day too.

We have a sloppy mess out this way, too. Have to slog through it to get to the chx, but at least they are on the higher dry side. The front side of the coop & side of run where I am building the grow out coop is standing water....I have a great idea what to do in front of each coop to keep the ground drier where I stand to do coop chores thanks to Gramma Chick.

Been down with Strep, but the antibiotics are starting to kick in now. And we planned on a quiet just the 4 of us holiday this year, so at least we didnt have to cancel any plans. It was very low key, but a great time. Nice to just relax, no pressure to go here there and everywhere, and spend time with my kids.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their week as well!

Merry Christmas everyone!
My Christmas is all out of sorts and its making me anxious, didn't sleep well. My brother and his fiancé went to her family get together on Sunday, Monday night they started throwing up, ect. Her mom claims stomach bug, 5 other people are sick with it too. With that many people, someone sick handled the food improperly or it is food poisoning. They are feeling slightly better yesterday. So Christmas Eve at my house was cancelled. Got a call last night that my dad was now throwing up. So either he caught the bug from them or a separate case of food poisoning from eating at the trashy Ponderosa in Cortland yesterday. Got a phone call at 1am that they are taking dad to the hospital, he passed out from dehydration. More as a precaution and to get him some IV fluids. Christmas at my parents house is unlikely today. And I have a 4 year old that will be very disappointed, some of her santa presents are over there. She's been up since 5:30, but sent her back to bed to at least rest until a reasonable time.
*sigh* sorry for the downer post, hope everyone else has a great day!
ETA: talked to dad, he is in the 5th bag of IV fluids, not sure if he will be home today or tomorrow. He feels more awful for screwing up Christmas Day for little girl, but I talked with her this morning and she understands.
Well now don't be sorry. My prayers are with you and yours.

Lord have mercy.

Yeah, beside brother and fiancé, at least 5 others end up sick at the same time. Dad came home late this afternoon, 5 liters of fluid later. He had non-contagious stomach virus thing. So avoid Ponderosa! We are planning to have Christmas on Saturday. Just glad I don't have to worry about little girl getting it.
My DD and hers got sick at Ruby Tuesdays. Very sick!

DW ate at Jo Li Me's and got sick. She had clamchowder. We were concerned because it she hadn't started feeling better it meant a trip to the ER. I understand Jo Li Me, is getting a make over and new management. It's a shame because they had some good chicken salad.

Anyhow, We rarely eat out anymore.

Gramma - hope you had a great day !

I do the exact same thing most of us do - I start the day after Thanksgiving by decorating a christmas tree and drinking hot chocolate ! I do this because it is a joyful part of our culture.

Then I mail out my christmas cards to friends who have moved far way - giving them a remembrance letter of the year and why I think of them. My household is too small for us to switch roles (which is a Saturnalia thing) but feasting and food and fellowship is the same. Saturnalia lasts for 2 weeks ! Plenty of drinking - which I go light on. So it is very nice that my DH and I always have christmas off :) It is also a holiday for playing jokes on people ... but again, my household is too small to go all the way with that.

Saturnalia is a very ancient Roman Holiday - celebrated way before they even had Ceasar march to power ! Families exchanged gifts, spent time together, feasted, as it was a more rigid society - switching roles was greatly amusing .... and someone in the family was crowned King of Saturnalia in each family each year .... but again, my household is too small for that part of it. No work went on - and it was just a fun joyous time of year.

lets face it . it wouldn't be the holidays if someone wasn't sick ..i hope everyone got what they needed and wanted ..i got a chicken clock from my mom..a new pair of size 11 barn boots , which would be great if they were not a womens size 11..lol..mom ment well ..haha..the grandkids had a blast and santa was very kind to them this yr ..not sure why we always give that guy credit when its our wallets that shrink each yr ..lol

wow , it seems it came and went so fast ..hard to beleave it...glad its over, but its like life is moving at a faster clip these days ..hope everyone had a good holiday , no matter what ya call it , its a good time to be with family and friends..now on to the next one ..come on easter and spring time ..i no the 21st was the first day of winter but i think 5 days of winter is about enough , dont you all agree....lol
