NY chicken lover!!!!

This is all I could find;
"Date Effective: May 14, 2015
All poultry moved into New York require a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or a USDA VS Form 9-3 and must be:
1) From a source flock in which 30 birds were tested negative for avian influenza within ten days prior to entry into New York State; OR
2) From a source flock that has been certified by the State of Origin as an Avian Influenza Monitored Flock; OR
3) From an NPIP U.S. H5/H7 Avian Influenza Clean or NPIP U.S. Avian Influenza Clean Flock
All hatching eggs and day-old chicks imported into New York must be from an NPIP U.S. H5/H7 Avian Influenza Clean flock or NPIP U.S. Avian Influenza Clean Flock."

Anybody hear anything else?

SandHill's website states they are NPIP and tested bi annually for AI. Do you think this is ok? Gosh, now I got to look up what days they take calls :-(

I found this article, not sure if it's different from what you found:

You might want to call them and just ask. I also have an order in with Ideal and I'm going to call and ask and if necessary switch the shipping address.

Quick Edit: Holderread Farm got back to me immediately and said they haven't been told they can't ship to NY and actually just sent a shipment yesterday.

Just cause their asking $9.50 a dozen doesn't mean they get it. We have a lot of that around here too. But soon the prices come down... sometimes unrealistic expectations. :(
considering what I saw at the Farmers market here there are many ignorant folks. I asked and got $10. I bring in few new birds and hatch my own. This was for Easter fevers.

Everyone has different experiences. Every place is different...Every single farmers market has a different audience... we don't even have anyone at the m as keet here across from the apartment building that has eggs. But they have wine last year, a lady tried to sell hm baked goods, those were even a flop. There just isn't any money left in Rome. First... Revere copper products- closed, then all the mom and pop places, then we lost Griffiss AFB, then Rite-Aid Distribution-left, Wal-Mart came in with a bunch of minimum wage jobs. No money. No sales. No way.

what And why are folks buying from catchwords? Sandhill does have some good lines, but not most hatchery.

I'm ordering from Ideal for the woman who gave me the orpington hens, because she wanted easter egger pullet chicks. And from Holderread because they have excellent top quality birds that are true to breed. The ducklings I get from them will be show birds.

I charge less than most, and my birds sell like hot cakes for it. I sold out within 5 minutes of arriving at the last poultry swap. We hadn't even got the pen up yet and there was a line. I did test the waters though, and posted a video of my birds on the swap page. I imprint everything I hatch, so 20 seconds of happy, friendly birds was all it took.. I still covered all my costs and made a profit, even selling low. I put up a whole new enclosure and bought a dozen Ancona eggs with it! That's totally all I need!

How do you get yours chicks to imprint? I can imprint ducks and geese easily, but chicks are always hit and miss for me, and I'd like to imprint my cemani chicks that hatched last night.

I play brooder. For the first few days of life they are with me more than in their brooder bucket. I keep them in a pile in my lap to keep them warm. All my brooder buckets are clear so the babies can see me all the time. After a few days I don't pull them out as much, but am still around them constantly. They go through that "death from above" startle phase when you lean over them as they start to feather, but that settles. When they hit the grow out pen I will take half an hour or so a day and just sit with them. They explore and realize I am really not death from above. I work on stepping up with the most promising ones. There are usually a few that no matter what, will be a little neurotic no matter how much you play with them. I carry them daily to and from the outdoor play pens as soon as they are feathered enough to handle the weather. By the time they hit the transitional pen, they are easy to catch and pick up, and follow you everywhere when you go outside. With everyone but the game birds free range, if I don't imprint, catching them during the day when they are not roosting inside is a nightmare because of the sheer size of the fenced in area!
I've found the constant holding the first 2 days is key. I did a batch with less early group cuddling and they are more nervous, but are still calm when handled. I'm hoping they will settle out in the grow out pen when they can approach me on their own terms...
