NY chicken lover!!!!

I've managed to catch up. End of school year activities, birthdays, company, and family functions. Still another week to go for school.

All 4 of my pekin hens went broody and have been sitting on eggs. 2 quit last week with no results. I just checked other 2 nests, one had babies peeking back at me from momma the other the hen was gone eggs cold. I can't find her. No signs that something got her, I'm going to check farther out. All 4 nests were near each other.

The weeds are starting to take over my garden too. I need some more time for doing things at home

I haven't taken pics but I've weed whacked around my raised beds in the back garden. Tomatoes and garlic of course. Rhubarb beds need weeding since I didn't do any cover around the bases of them.

Anyhow raised beds and weed whackers go hand in hand.

My herb garden needs redoing since the beds are year old and in bad shape. It will take some work.

It must be broody season :)

Hello!
Does anyone else have mulberry trees? How do your chickens like them? My chickens LOVE them and they have just started to fall from the tree!

Welcome to the New york thread ! I dont have any...they do like our blackberrys when they get ripe .

First time I saw mulberry trees was at the Catskill Game Farm when I took my kids a year before they closed. They were all over dropping fruit, and I never saw them before or even knew we had them in NY state. Yup, just like blackberries. Very sad they closed, I remember going there when I was a kid. They said they didn't have a choice, went from many thousands of visitors to just hundreds. Biggest most awesomest 'zoo' I've ever been to, so many animals any other zoo couldn't compare. People just don't travel and visit and do vacations much anymore.
Edited to add; they were open for 73 years, very sad.

We had a mulberry tree right outside the house we were renting and what a mess! It was right next to throw back door to come in and we had to scrape our shoes off every time. We ate the berries but you could only eat so much and the birds would eat them and cap on our cars..

what a mess. I wouldn't want one again unless it was far from my house!

Eowyn is being good and keepin the chicks in the coop. It has been cool so maybe that's why. I have to candle the eggs under arwin as I suspect they will hatch soon. All 4 hens have been staying in the coop with the eggs and chicks. Poor Legoland looks lonely out in the run by him self (or he is enjoying peace and quiet away from drama hens!).

Little monsters got out for a nice long stretch of free ranging yesterday. The terrorist had a tantrum about it for hours! The hens wouldn't shut up about it and I finally had to tell them to be quiet. Their children needed some outside time. They finally shut up when I told them that. Yue monster boys spent their first hour jousting and everyone had to fly around, testing their wings.

Made some bran muffins and coconut chocolate chip cookies yesterday. Been tweeting the recipe on the muffins and the cookies are a new one I had to try. Both are gluten free. Tastyness!!! I was bad and ate 4 cookies. Been trying to use coconut oil and honey in place of butter, vegetables oil and sugar with mixed results. Trying to keep good control of those sugar numbers.

Finished another baby blanket. Just have to make a hat and booties to go with. So many projects, never enough time!
