NY chicken lover!!!!

I hatch a batch and need to look for homes for my roos. They are only 6 weeks now...but very cool breeds. I can keep him/them until they get bigger. I have a beautiful Heritage Dominique...maybe a nacked neck...a barred cochin.... still waiting to see if the others are roos or hens. Most like a Barred Olive Egger as well. This waiting thing stinks! Let me know.
thank you for the offer but we are looking for one or two closer to the age of the girls so we can integrate by winter.

Our first honey harvest. Our strong hive ran out of room and swarmed last weekend, hubby finally had time to inspect them all. Next up: I picked 40 pounds of peaches, now to can peaches and peach pie filling.

ETA: I picked the peaches at Indian Creek Farm in Ithaca. Don't have my own orchard

Next weekend will be blueberry picking at a local farm and canning blueberry pie filling.

Very nice. Where are you located from me? If you decide to sell honey I prefer to purchase it if I can from my BYC friends. If it's not to expensive of course.

I've considered a hive and DW thinks it would be a good idea, but I don't have the time to tend to it. I could buy a hive but dealing with it is not something I can do right now.

Again very nice.

Hi all,

I have some very upsetting news. I received a letter from my town code enforcement that my neighbor is complaining of my chickens being noisy and apparent "runoff" into their backyard. The town is requiring me to rehome them in one week. I'm reaching out to see if anyone can take my sweet girls! I have three isa browns, two EEs, a cochin and 2 silkies. I'm having a hard time with this, but I know everyone on here loves their chickens like I do. Please message me or reply. I am located in Elmira NY.

todays newspaper has an article about chickens in E.Syracuse.

You can of course ask for a hearing can't you? Find out who exactly is complaining. Proof of what they're saying.

My neighbor once came complaining of the noise from the school marching band practice. When I didn't agree he was miffed.

My brother had a complaint about his dog barking. The animal control officer came and sat out in front of his house? He heard nothing.

So if you can ask for a hearing. Go to the town office and ask them about a hearing.

There are some folks in this world who can't bear to see others happy.

Run off you can move the coop. Noise is a crock I'm sure. Get a copy of "City Chicks". See what the research has shown.

I am very sorry for not responding . My husband said you are too far for me to go. I don't venture far from home.
There is someone in Binghamton that breeds, but she is not on BYC very often. Think it was Ameraucanas, so not very large for meat birds.

I'm in Southern Cortland County, little over an hour from you. Hubby has people interested in it, sold 3 jars on Monday, so not sure how long this will last. We will keep a couple jars for ourselves. Being our first year, not sure if/when we will do a fall harvest. We worry about taking too much then having to feed through winter. This was from 8 medium honey frames from one hive plus 1 deep frame from the second hive (no brood was in the frame, honey only). We've been fortunate in finding deals, but it wasn't cheap to get all the basic equipment needed. They don't require much care, but obviously losing half of one hive in a swarm, they still need attention. Lesson learned: check more often, add a box before they run out of space. And the 'third hive' bees we got from a felled tree are struggling along, had to take away one of the brood boxes due to wax moth infestation, frames are now in the freezer. Lesson learned: Don't give them more space than they can handle. Second hive has Ross Rounds for comb honey, but they don't seem to be filling those out. Lesson learned: so far nothing lol, maybe give them a medium box to fill rather than the brood frames.

Thank you Sstewart and tao chick. My DH and I have been talking about everything this evening...I was just so worried about having to get rid of my chickens in one week! I wasn't thinking rationally about what the complaints were. So far we have determined that there is no way for our neighbor to have "runoff" from the coop. The coop and run are covered by corrugated roofing...so it would just be normal rain runoff. They also claim to have a ton of flies, but I have hardly any. They apparently brought two full fly traps...but they attract flies obviously lol. I use DE and I've now decided to try sweet PDZ for any smell. Again, we went out to the coop and we don't smell anything awful! I clean my coop and run often. The 3 isa browns are VERY noisy, so it seems I may have to find them a home...but my others are quiet. I just want time to remedy anything I can so I can keep my girls!
This is something I worry about being a townie person also, video taped my hens with neighbors barking dog and screaming child muffling the hens clucking. Move the coop closer to the house or put game camera on it you've joined the crazy neighbor club. Best of luck please keep us updated.
Freezer camp choices are going to be easy very aggressive two month old roo who keeps flying at me when I open the door.

Have you joined any of the Bee clubs? Where did you get your hive? Did you have help setting it up? Did you invest in all the stuff to tend the bees and harvest the honey?

What do you charge by the pound or by the jar?

Unless you a bit timid of leaving your comfort zone.

Well now, sometimes you gotta force yourself. I do know the comfort zone thing. I sometimes don't leave home for days. If it weren't for church and school I might not at all.

At school it was hard for me because I was the only guy. Then I prayed and the lord sent Bro. Roy. (we call each other brother and sister) Bro. Roy is very nice but can talk the hind leg off a mule. Still I thank the Lord for him and when anyone would mention his talking, I just tell them Bro. Roy was an answer to prayer and I wasn't going to complain.

Anyhow, you're with friends and we can hope to get to meet you and yours sometime.

Hello from Ga! Visiting my mother and my daughters. Hot as hades here. Just popped in to say hi.

Have you ever been to Hades? Folks always comparing the heat to Hades.

Course you know what they say? "If you're going through Hades, keep on going".

When I was in Texas, I would take my GS to the park that had a "splash pad" He and I would both run through the water in our cloths. At my age I should care? It was hot but not like it is now.

It's was hot, I saw a Fire Hydrant chasing a pack of dogs.

It was so hot the cows were giving evaporated milk.

It was so hot the birds had to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
