NY chicken lover!!!!

I just wanted to post this here:

It's really long - it's a post I just put up on my work in progress website for my farm. I didn't want to copy it down here because of the length, but it's about the horrible experience I've had with the PO today. Just wanted to share with you guys because it'll make me feel better and you guys will understand better than anyone how I'm feeling, if you want to take the time to read it.
I hope that they hang on for you and you get them Thursday!..and the UPSP wonders why they are doing bad. This is one reason..

Thanks for the prayers for my sister. I talked with her yesterday and she is hanging in there. She will be able to go home as soon as her lung heals enough. I worry about what will happen as the baby gets bigger and puts pressure on her lungs..not to mention labor. It collapsed back in July so it was barely 5 months. She is due in March with a little girl.

Are you planning on those giant white turkeys? I can't say anything bad about them, I've helped raise them, grow quick and super meaty, HUGE, and NOT!! like cornishX chickens that look like they are going to die....Had a white giant turkey two yrs old that laid like crazy, couldn't snip the head, she was too sweet.
Only problem with them is they can not and do not breed, all artificial. I watched a 'Dirty Jobs' episode on it, I'm NOT interested....
If you are looking for heritage, breedable turkeys, I've done some research, this place sounds good to me, and I've had many on BYC say the same, never seen so many breeds. I found them looking for Holland Whites, they have them, the start of the giant whites of today, but heritage and breedable...
Don't know now if I'll try them, these white jersey giants are supposed to get up to 18-20lbs as capons, we'll see what happens on the spring hatch.

I'm not sure yet what breed I want. I do know I want it breed able though.

I have heritage turkeys and they breed very well. Bourbon Red, Sweetgrass, and the darker ones are a mix of the two. They are all very tame and friendly and good egg layers early spring (snow still on the ground) through mid summer. Right now I have 16 and would like to sell some of them.

Lap my thoughts have been with you, and your wonderful horse. Lucky to have had these 13 years with you. Luv, praying for your sister! And Pyxix, I was so sad to hear of your troubles with the disease. Hope things are better on that front. I was traveling, but would check in when I had down time.

Most of my molders are done and looking great, but two are looking ugly having started late, Eunice and one of the barred rocks. But I started their light therapy, because we were only getting one to three eggs a day. Things should be better soon. one problem with all the newly refeathered hens is that I can't tell the difference between Dottie and Speckles, two SS hens. Somehow the new feathers have changed their looks...

So your saying seasonal feather replacement changes the look of the bird!? Oh crap, this should make next fall a disaster. I only have 3 girls who are keepers, guess I seperat them before molt.

Oh, that's funny! I never thought about them looking different after a molt, but it does make sense.

On a side note, I am off today so my husband, daughter and I went to the local diner for breakfast. Well, I got an omelet... blech. I have been spoiled by fresh eggs. I could barely choke it down it was so bland tasting! Even with yummy filling I couldn't get past it!

It's sad isn't it when you realize the tasteless c*** you have been eating all the years you didn't have chickens? It extends down to the other foods too - meat etc. If I had to live back in the city, I would be veggie if I couldn't find a good & reasonable source of animal protein...

Miracles can happen and I'll pray for one for your sister. DD was high risk too. I Spent some time in the chapel in the hospital. Sofie didn't take her first breath for almost five minutes. She is fine.

We still did not get that address.

Stopped at the new place that replaced IHOP on E.Gennie. What a let down. DW Potato pancakes were still frozen. As for eggs. Commercial eggs have more water. They are "designed" to give a consistently identical egg. We'd be hard pressed to get all our eggs the same size and weight. This is why I sell them by weight rather than size.

Love you all, thanks to all the veterans.
