NY chicken lover!!!!

I've done the production white turkeys as well. The were super fun to raise, very social birds. It was a sad day when we processed, but they gave so very much delicious meat. Knowing they couldn't reproduce naturally made it easier to bring them for processing, but also had me wondering about a heritage breed option. Do u know how many weeks it takes a holland white to get to processing size?

Would be interesting to know...Probably the same as any other heritage breed, but I don't know, off to research......

It's really long - it's a post I just put up on my work in progress website for my farm. I didn't want to copy it down here because of the length, but it's about the horrible experience I've had with the PO today. Just wanted to share with you guys because it'll make me feel better and you guys will understand better than anyone how I'm feeling, if you want to take the time to read it.

GRRR! I don't know what to say, bunch of *#@^**@**!!!! and some !!!!
Incompetent! I've beat around the bush with them a few times, never with LIVE animals...Wish you the best of luck!!!...I was on a thread recently that the person had good luck in a similar situation, BUT, the post office hundreds of miles away was feeding and watering them because of the mix up, and they were good people...........Hopefully you run into the same...

How Horrible ! The poor chickies ...including you !
did they ship them as live animals ? as there is supposed to be special procedures for them .
Im sorry you had such trouble ...did you talk to the post master ...at the post office ?
they are usually better at helping than the average Joe / Jill.
they were insured ? but that cant help their suffering
There is a Backyard chicken lady that is a mail woman in NY..
I know she has delivered Express on days the post office is closed .
Ill ask her..I gave her your screen name ..to pm you

Wow.

Hoping the best for all involved. Hoping things turn out well despite this.

What a frustrating day! I hope you get answers and chicks soon. Because of the value, I wonder if they were stolen.

That is truly terrible, can you report it to the ASPCA or similar? They should be more attentive with live animals....

Good luck and best wishes Pyxis. I am praying for a happy ending.

On a different note, we dropped off our extra roos and 2 ducks at an amish place for butcher yesterday and will be picking them up today. $2 a chicken and $3 for a duck.

Thank you everyone. Still no luck finding them. And of course USPS apparently hasn't staffed its phone line today due to the holiday, so they aren't answering. The local facility where they are doesn't open until 8 their time, which would be 11 here. I will try to call, but I suspect I will get no answer again. Gramma did pass my info along to someone who works at the PO and she has graciously offered to try to help me with this. Gramma, thanks for that.
