NY chicken lover!!!!

I would rather eat my flock than give it away . My flock is just an extension of my family, as are my dogs. Given the option to rehome my dogs to an unfit home (or any home at this point) is a no go. If a person wants a part time pet then they need to make friends with animal people. I have animals, as do the rest of you chicken lovers, for various reasons. My chickens serve at least 3 purposes. 1 eggs 2 meat and most importantly is 3 therapy. Chickens make me smile. No way am I leaving them exposed so predators can steal them.

Quote: Rancher, So sorry to hear you and YES, I certainly do understand. I know you will miss
your chickens. Think about all us on BYC that are like you and Love and care for their chickens.
Please do not leave this forum. Your words are important to us. Wish I had some chickens like
yours to add to my Silkie Flock. Fond regards, Aria

Rancher- you bring up so many valid points. I'm so glad I've found this community that has taught me so much. My chickens are my family too. I try to tell people who buy chicks I hatch about this forum.

Oh I'll be here for a while longer. As long as Frenchy and Buckwheat are alive. \

FYI I have small coop that needs a roof. I had a pic somewhere. It's up for grabs if you want to come and get it. There is a sliding plexiglass pop hole door and a full back door. Part of an unfinished run too. I didn't finish it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to lower it to the ground after crawling through mud to get the chicks to go up the ramp I made. They did eventually go up it but I had to get down and drag them out from under a few times. In the pouring rain once in the dark. The white stuff is DE. I toss that stuff everywhere.

The new stuff I got is gray. I don't like it as much but it works. I don't have any recent pics. DW has the camera in TX.

I snag everyone at TSC and give them my card with BYC on the back. Some folks aren't always nice but I try not to let that stop me. Lots of what I know I learned here from experienced folks. I do read a lot too.

Anyhow I found this site while looking for help with my first batch of chicks. Two were looking kind of down. Speckledhen told me what to do and both chicks survived. I didn't lose one chick out of 25. Got them Feb 22, 2008. Funny I never forgot that day.

Back then they used to have an IM forum. Lord have mercy I could not keep up.

My thoughts and fingers were out of sync.
