NY chicken lover!!!!

I shot,it dropped my roo and flew away. But I could swear I had read somewhere to keep then looked up for a week or something like that so the predator moves on. I don't think I hit it and if I did not too well

I alway let them out the next day ..I am just more watchful for a few days JUST On Heightened Alert.
by the way ...It is illegal to shoot a bird of prey ...not sure about a falcon ...but a hawk or eagle it is

Yep, it is completely illegal to shoot any raptors even if they're eating your chickens. Keep it to yourself that you did that - as they say, SSS.

What's everyone's take on lockup time after a predator attack? My amber link roo was just assaulted by a falcon.

let them out, shoot predator.

I had a Falcon get one of my birds in the late winter. It was easy to spot the black chicken against the white snow. As far as I know they're migrators so I didn't expect it to hang around. I took the carcass and locked up the birds for a couple of days and was more visible outside.

I thought I was doing them a favor by snow blowing a large area. Now I don't clear a large unnecessary area.

Had a Hawk land in the yard once and scared it off. Then another time had one in a tree and chased it off. I do know they're around but there are wild pigeons nearby too.

If you can create some hiding places that will shelter your birds and make them less visible from the air. Hang shiny objects from the coop or where ever you can.

I thought it was the 2 roosters fighting but they have never gotten anywhere near that aggressive with each other. Their run is underneath an apple tree and shaded quite well,i was under the impression that I had pretty good cover.but mother nature has proven me wrong.

we have a lot of hawks here in upstate NY.. my flock sees a shadow and they run for cover.. we have plenty of trees with low hanging branches... they are pretty good at running for cover.. luckily i havent lost any yet.. first time chicken mama here.. i'm always doing a head count.. :)
