Update on Cowboy ...He seems okay today ..
No beak separation ...He has ate some..it probably hurts when he does .
I made sure everything I gave him today was soft food .
I did the Tea bag Proceedure this eve ..
it is best to do it right away & not wait ..as I think he had some food mixed in with his scab
I didnt dare clean it off ...I didnt want to remove what his body is doing to heal itself .
It was wonderful fun ..Holding a small towel wrapped chicken in one hand / arm
A teeny piece of teabag and super glue in the other hand ..praying he didnt move or wake up ..

I Finally got it done to my satisfaction ..then trying to take pictures with one hand while I hold him ...

Is there a better way to celebrate than deep fried crap?

I'd say book a room but it might be hard now. Things have changed and going on monday to see them. Hope there are improvements. Week days are easier I think. Not so many kids. Of course monday is free for old geezers like me.

Is that 2.5 round trip or one way? five hours is a bit long but if you were to stay over then it's not to bad. Could you do the weekend? Go to the Fair, see the Burnett Park zoo? Go to the Destiny mall and do a few things.
Nah, it would just be a day trip. We're used to that kinda thing - can't go on a weekday (work), so it's gonna be crazy Saturday IF we go.

Gramma - how's cowboy today ?

Pxyis - any update on the neighbors? Any new sighting of animals that aren't yours?

My bantam Wyandotte hatched out bantam ameraucana babies from eBay-sourced eggs, got 7/12 which seems pretty good to me. She was an obnoxious broody, just would not break, short of waterboarding her I had no choiçe! LOL. The Bantam Menace hatched 3 weeks ago.

Are the black ones Marans ?
No I don't think so.. I did have four hens but they're gone. They're most likely EE/marans crosses. I've gotten lots of hits for them. Lots! Won't be able to do anything to Tuesday at least.

Fair day is generally a whole day affair. We take the bus from Shoppingtown over. Much less hassle that way.

Everyone getting rid of flocks makes me want to Road trip and gather them all up. I wish I could convince Jon we need more birds. Although we do have 132 birds already only 97 actually count. The rest are cx and not around much longer. I want Barbanter and Marans and EE and so many more I can't think of right now.

I am so excited for winter to get here so I can get all caught up on paperwork and sleep. I have a Shoe box and notebook with my records for the year. All my profit/loss and building supplies and figuring out what all I have to do to get my "hobby farm" reclassified so I can get my tax stuff for next year.

If I were younger things would be different. Then too you have to hatch out a lot to get the ones you want. If you just want eggs it's not big deal to have a lot of mixed.

As it is I've got two hens that are broody still but their not getting any eggs. Now if Frenchy goes she gets whatever she wants.

I didn't know there were others getting rid of their chickens. I'm really just downsizing. I'm not looking forward to winter but cooler weather will be nice.

To: Everyone.

So I thought it was a Squirrel, but it's a little Possum. What do I do with it? Do they bother the chickens? I've never had one bother the chickens.

I think possums get a bad rap - they are looking for easy pickings - eggs, garbage what-have-you. I don't think they would attack a full size chicken unless desperately hungry...

Not being a totally heartless person I didn't dispatch it. I propped up the door of the trap and let it go at the edge of the woods. I have had one hiss at me once. I did think about rabies though. Usually rabies is found in Bats or foxes or coons.

I did see a Bat for the first time in a long time. I am not concerned about them, unless one gets in the house. That has happened. Too I am saddened at their decline, so they say.

As I said, I'm not totally heartless...........................just don't push me.

Everyone else:

I've gotten about 26 hits on my ad for the youngsters. I expected as much for FREE chickens. I look for names I remember when considering takers. Too, some remember me.

I had a girl Michelle who I called in the past but she doesn't return my calls. I hope she's okay. I liked her. Sometimes things happen and folks just drop off the map.

Course Grammas number is still taped to the wall for some reason. I may switch that to the monitor. I have a row of sticky tabs with folks names. It's my prayer list. Some folks I got when I was working years ago but I still pray for them. I just ask God to help everyone on my monitor.

I'm sure God can read.

I think Frenchy is broody again. I didn't give her any eggs because of where she is in the coop. I'd have to move her. It is late in the year to have chicks too. Still she is spoiled so I may give her eggs but she is going on NINE! What if sitting is to much stress for her? Then I'll feel bad.

I had a Dominique who I hand fed all the while she was on the eggs.

Folks say chickens are a lot of work but how can something that gives us so much pleasure be work?

Take care folks, stayed tuned for my review of the NYS Fair. I'll try to get pics for those who don't make it. FYI, I hear there are no Delaware.
