NY chicken lover!!!!

If I had a truck I'd be picking up lots of stuff. Probably too much stuff. I could use some plywood for the roof of this chickens shelter. I like to have a place for them to be in shade.

How about a cheap tarp ? Sometimes you can find one at Dollar tree , Dollar General or Family dollar ..
if you wanted to be creative you could put small branches with leaves on them
Did you get rid of all those chicks ?

The chicks have started roosting!!! It was fantastic to go out and see all but a few on the roost.

Awww .the babies are Growing up ..My next to the last 2 youngans are roosting too..

3 Itty Bittys - 2 weeks old.. wont be roosting for a while ..

Turns out the organic feed I was giving the flock was 1/3 soy ...so this hen was broody twice this year ...

I'm hoping for enough cold and snow to kill off a few hundred chipmunks too - those little blighters ate most of our tomato crop among other things...
My cat takes care of the chipmunk , mice , rabbit population

Soy causes brudieness?

soy in the body acts like a Sex Hormone ..It seems to do it for chickens too
This one hen I have had for 2 1/2 years ....never broody till this year ...broody twice
one hen has been broody 3 times
the Organic Feed I was buying didnt have soy ...ha ha ...had soy oil in it .

Right now they are on tractor supply food ..no soy in that ...thank you ....
In my opinion ...YES

I wish you were closer. My cat and her babies eat 6 or so chipmunks a day and come to me every time the pick up even 1 flea or tick. They are barn cats so they never bring critters in thank goodness. The dog's on the other hand bring in all sorts of stuff.
I'm tempted to get a cat or two but they're more expensive to feed than chickens. The mice and voles are a pain. I can't figure out how to catch the moles.

Did you get rid of all those chicks ?
Yes but I have three hens on eggs, just because and another that is broody but I don't have eggs to give her yet. I've given up fighting them. I did keep six. Five because they're pullets and one because he was too young at the time and the hens only chick. I kept one frizzle, one blue, one lavender, one marans and one delaware.

I don't know that it does but I have more than I can handle. Which is why I sold my incubator. I just wish I had a barn with stalls or space for broody hens away from the others.

But I like rabbits. I saw one the other night. Mice on the other hand are a pain and I'm considering a cat for that reason. I am worried about it being an outdoor cat though. I really need a trap system. I've been setting them near my raised beds as the mice are chewing my squash.
