Welcome new folks. You're sure to enjoy chickens of any breed.

Everyone else:

Went to the Small Farm and Homestead Fair. I was not what I expected. Lord have mercy it was cold. The Farmers Market was not to bad. Some Vendors of private folks and some commercial like Purina and TSC. Some ecology folks too but sometimes I wonder what they want folks to take away with them when they go. I talked to some folks about Goats and Alpaca. Trouble is I'd need some staff to help. Too I'd need advice in getting things set up. Someone to look over the property and give me advice.

I didn't see much in the way of Homesteading. There were classes of sorts but the times all crashed in together. While I wanted and paid to go to the Bee keeping (the latest fad) talk, it would have meant missing the Farmers Market as that closed at 1. And the classes were in other building on campus and it was up some stairs and very cold and windy. Froze my face.

Went to the class on Jams and Jellies that thing but it was all about Commercial stuff. Making your own BBQ sauce and selling it to the stores. That type of thing. I'm more into the cottage industry type thing.

I want to order some Ducks too. No Poultry folks at all. Couldn't make that class if there was one. Talked to the Nature Wise lady and learned somethings, so that was helpful.

Each cost $5 so the brochure said but then some were free even though the brochure said $5. Anyhow I got my $5 back for the bee thing and went to the Farmers Market. If I'd gone to the Bee thing I would not have made the Farmers Market. I did buy a couple of things. Got some coupons (which I will use) and free pens.

I expect next year it will be better and more organized.

This cold weather is putting a damper on things for sure. The chickens lean to got blown over and it's too cold to fix that.

DW is getting Chemo and I'm trying to keep it all together for her sake. Work has been tough the last few shifts. Not the job itself but persons I can't speak of. I just want a peaceful work place. I like my job expect to be there if things settle down. I'm too old for the drama.

Gave out my card with BYC on the back and told folks about Chickenstock. I hope some folks come to meet all your fine chicken people. Too I hope some new folks join us here.

Anyone here keeping goats for hair? I gotta research that.

TTFN,

Stay warm okay? Love ya Rancher

That's a cool breed of chicken . Does your chick have the black mouth and tongue like the adults ?

Not all adults have a black mouth and tongue. It's definitely what you aim towards when breeding but only a small few have that trait at this time :)
