Hi. I'm in lower Hudson valley dutchess county area. I'm looking for some fertilized chicken eggs for my first try at incubating. I will be using some of my own eggs too. Most of my girls starting laying in Sept. I don't think the eggs are big enough to hatch a chick. I wanted to see if I can find some local eggs to hatch. I've read that shipped eggs hatch ability rate is low.

Hello! Most of us on this thread are in upstate NY, so we're pretty far from you. You might have better luck finding eggs closer if you post in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/534036/southern-ny-dutchess-county-and-below

Pyxis - Blue Seal in Brandon is putting a sale on their young peeps - super healthy and all under $2 .... Just saying in case you want more trouble !!!

Gramma - is it possible you hatched out a hen with Cowboy ? Remember my feather colors won't always look like a Marans - but the egg color should be that dark brown on you wee eggie there ... :) OR - like you said - if cowboy got started in the saddle early and that hen got to laying really early ....

Lol thanks, but I best not get any more trouble. I already have something like 25 chicks thanks to hatching and a small hatchery order.
