NY chicken lover!!!!

Nice to know that my pullets are not alone in waiting for the right time to lay an egg.

Can't wait to see what color the Amercaucana and EE's are gonna lay.

Hmmm...now for some woodshavings and hay. Scrape them down again and start the deep bedding for winter.

Have a good night and stay warm tonight.

Have you ever had baby Finches? We had lots, then friends didn't want any more so we started taking the eggs away. Put them in a dish and they dry up, then color for Easter!

Very cool! No, these are our first.

Hope you are feeling better real soon, featherz. (And, sick a roo or two on those goons. They won't stick around long!!)

I may have a taker at last for my two extra Speckled Sussex cockerels, which is cool. I'll be calling the guy tomorrow to see about arranging to meet him and hand them over. It honestly doesn't matter to us if he takes them as flock roos or sends them to Camp Crock-Pot, as long as they're out of here, as, although they're still quite peaceful with one another, five roos to 21 hens is an out-of-whack ratio. I've been willing all along to process them myself at some point, but DH remains a bit weird about it for some reason. He doesn't even care if someone else processes them - he just doesn't really want to eat them himself. Mind you, this is the same guy who wants to get a couple of hogs and process THEM himself. Go figure.

That'll bring me down to three cockerels, the two Polish, one of whom is so low-ranking that he may never even factor into the equation, and the oldest (and my favorite) SS, who has been a gentleman since he was a chick. We'll see how that goes. It's not like I don't know of any local sources of additional chickens if I need to expand the flock somewhat.

Starting to plan on next spring. Wanting some Norweigen Jahaeurn hatching eggs. We'll see how Drois feels about being broody once warm weather hits again. She is decidedly against it now.

Outside is a swamp. Lots of rain again. Pullets are peeking out the door and not going out.

Need waders to get to the pens.

Thankfully both coops are on raised floors, so are staying dry.

Looked at horses to buy today with a friend (yeah, she is the one buying, not me). What fun!

Hope tomorrow is drier.

I hear you on the swamp in the yard. Last weekend I put a "boardwalk" to the coop. I got tired of slipping in the mud.

Hee Hee, the boardwalk is funny.

I can just see us all dolled up in nice dresses and high heels walking daintily down the boardwalk with happy hens treat in our hands to lure the pretty hens in with.

(Just then...... the alligator leaps at the boardwalk, devouring the pretty ladies and - more horrer - the treats. Ooops, the weather is making me a bit morbid.

My yard isn't swampy yet like it was last spring, but it'll get there! I had my DH build awnings over several of my runs, so that's helping - there's even dry dustbathing holes!

DH will be pleased - the roosters get a reprieve once again. Why, oh why is it that when somebody is no longer interested in your CL ad, they can't email you and SAY SO?
