Hello all I am from Gouverneur NY. About 1 hr North of Watertown NY and about 45 minutes from Canada. I am very new to chickens. I just started getting them in March 2017. Started out with 9 mixed breed bantams (I think that what they are) and now have 1silky rooster and 4I believe mix iceis/rir all adults and have raised 6 barred Rock from a week old all female. Just got a barred Rock rooster last night. So I grew Fast.

I have A lot of property and want to build a large chicken tractor that is fairly easy to move with one person.

Ok - everyone - I'm having trouble with the website here, not getting notifications.... anyway.....so far I have only had 2 people express definite interest in Fall Chickenstock. Could you all give me some idea of who plans to come, b/c if we don't get some more folks interested, Gramma Chick and I will be eating hotdogs, drinking water and staring at each other....

I live about 40 minutes south of Albany. Just ordered some new chicks from My Pet Chicken so I could get the breeds I wanted. Want new chicks so my grandkids can enjoy them from the very beginning. We will use a big dog crate on the back porch first. This is my first time trying to add to my flock so I think we need a small interim coop before they go in with our 3 Golden Comets and 1 rooster. We will probably build it ourselves and put it into the big fenced in area that my run opens into. While they are in there we won't let the adult birds into that area at all. They will just free range. Does that make sense? How has everyone added to their flock? What kind of housing did you need for the young birds?

I put a cage in the coop for new birds (after they've been quarantined). I leave the young ones in the cage for a week or so, then I open the door. After a few weeks, I take the cage away. It's worked well for me.

Hello I live in Bridgeport NY and I have 5 hens and 1 rooster getting 4-5 more Saturday a golden laced sebright and Japanese bantams and a silkie, does anybody know some info on sebright? They are weak creatures of what I read. Thanks and hello!

Welcome! From what I read of Sebrights they are quite difficult to raise. They are not winter hardy so will need special TLC for our NY winters. It seems they are not a particularly friendly bird and are poor layers..very pretty tho' If you look through the breeds section here there is an article on Sebrights.
