You got that right. I hide my card, ever since my one and only Buff Orpington got caught on an Auction site bidding on a Lemon Cuckoo Orp roo. I had a fit! She said "but I look so good wearing yellow stripes." I tell you you gotta watch those Brits.

Only ones more loose are those Frenchy Marans. Ooh la, la. Most people worry about roos crowing? Worse are those girls doing the Can can for the boys. Especially those feather legged girls. I tell you they're tramps.

I found a stash of feathers they were making into boas.

Well I'll tell you I put the radio in the coop on a Christian preachy station? Now they all walk around wearing those Flying Nun hats trying to convert the other breeds. I don't know which is worse. I have no idea where they got it but on Sundays they ring a bell.

I always lock them up when the pastor comes round for a visit.

I snorted my Ice Tea. That hurt, but I couldn't stop laughing.

Well I sold nine hens and wish I hadn't cuz I've got people want eggs. Only thing is you can't count on them to buy.. Just how long can you have eggs in the fridge before you give them away?

On another note, what's the deal with on line auctions? Some times people bid such ridiculous prices. In one case whoever won bid .50 less than Green Fire was asking on there site. They weren't from GF but someone who bought from GF. What's up with that? I am learning to put in my max bid. If I had done that I might not have lost last night. I would have gone higher but time ran out.

Store eggs have a date 2 months in the future as their "best if used by". This is not an "expiration date", just a suggestion you use them before the random date Dept of Ag dictates they put on the box.

I have personally used eggs 2 months PAST the date on the box without ill effects.

So I would say 4 months, if you wash them with a mild disinfectant before refrigeration. I have used my own eggs, unwashed, refridgerated, 2 months after they were laid. Again, without ill effects.
I think some of the ones I bought from featherz were over 3 months old when I used them and she doesn't wash before refridgeration either.

I always wash eggs. I just worry on someone getting a bad egg. I'll have to remember the 2 month rule. I rarely have them that long. I keep all the little eggs for myself.

Actually, if you read the studies, unwashed eggs last *considerably* longer than washed eggs- Mother earth did an experiment and unwashed eggs lasted over 6 months refrigerated. Washed eggs went bad a LOT sooner, I think 2 or three months or maybe even less. I never wash eggs unless dirty - and those I would use right away.

I generally bake or scramble for chickens anything over a month old IF I have a fridge full of eggs like I have now. If I had fewer eggs, I'd keep them for 2-3 months at least.

When selling I shoot for two weeks or newer just so the person paying gets fresher eggs.

I'd be interested in knowing what they washed them in; fresh water or mild disinfectant? I wash my eggs with water minutes before I use them and not before refridgeration. No sense pushing germs through the shells pores so they rot regardless of temperature they are stored at.
