Has anyone here had any experience raising LF cornish? I was thinking of ordering some white laced red cornish chicks for April or May.

Random observation - whenever the meteorologist Crystal Egger is on the Weather Channel, I always think that that would be a really cool breed of chicken.![]()
Love that idea!!! I have a laminator... perfect! That is wonderful. Have you considered taking a few pictures of your chickens and putting them on the outside of the slop bin with the words "feed me"? (might want to cover them in clear contact paper or put the pics in a ziploc, so it doesn't get slop on it.
I am thinking of contacting the local elementary school and seeing if any of the teachers want to hatch chicks. (I think it is part of the curriculum in K or 1st grade) I would give them the eggs for free if they would give me back the chicks. (minus any that the children take home with them) Saves me having to buy a 'bator and turning the eggs 3 times a day.
We have a new principal and I just love her. She wholeheartedly agrees that it shouldn't go to waste.I think one of our local schools has started a composting program in conjuction with a neighboring farm for all the discarded food. But this is equally effective!
Why, sparkly white and diamonds, of course!HHMMm, what color would it be??? and the eggs?

It was! we could ignore him somewhat ..until the cat came in & left the door open..then he was real loud .
He didnt crow constantly just every once in a while .
If he has to sleep in the house again hes going down cellar ..

Whats a BM ? black Maran ?
Well Lucky is back outside with his ladies ...
He didnt let us get much sleep this morning ..has been crowing since 6:30 or so. He either misses the ladies or is answering them or thinks its time for us to get up. We are up now & he is quieter. LOL.. My husband got up & put ut on the back deck
BM is Birchen Marans. Actually, the club is calling them Black Birchens, to distinguish them from a Blue Birchen. Both are a solid black or blue body, with silver hackles & back feathers. The issue with them is not having the copper color come through on the roosters, or having the silver be a pure silver, not cream colored.
The chickens just dust in the shavings...they aren't fussy!More questions from the ever-curious newbie, TOB:
During these cold months, do you folks have some kind of dusting set-up inside the coop? If so, do you remove it for outside dust baths during the warmer seasons? I'm wondering how the inside dust affects respiration quality inside...
Also, if you're going to see a mite or lice outbreak, is there a particular time of year that the likelihood is higher, or is it just an all-seasons pain in the arse?
THANKS EVERYONE!![]()
