NY chicken lover!!!!

no prob Cass, i love muscovies, they are basically silent, well behaved, they are great for breast meat too, very lean, not like peking ducks. I love the taste of peking but as i said muscovies are leaner. a side note...as far as i know all domestic ducks trace thier roots back to the mallard except the muscovy duck.
YES! I love my scovies too! they are a lot leaner. We ate one a couple of days ago. Mmmmm. lean and meatier than other ducks I've helped butcher.
I love their personality too, they hiss and laugh and squeak. NO QUACK. I dig that. They are the perfect duck for my Homestead!

I'm the odd duck in here - no kids, and I'm the primary income by far in my house. I need a wife of my own!

Nah, you're not that odd. You have feathered kids. Or at least I tell mine "goodnight kids" as I lock them in the coop. I have one human variety kid and that is where we are going to stay. I am also the primary income, hubby works the main desk at the YMCA so income is pretty low on his end but does help. I don't qualify as SAHM material, I stayed home with little girl when she was born for 10 weeks. I felt so isolated and missed my job. I know it is not for me, but great for other moms. And little girl loves going to 'school' with her friends. Except today we are home with an upset tummy, probably from nasal drip. She'll survive.
I'm stressing not being at work today because of the looming sequester. I am a federal government worker, but one of those at the bottom where the cuts begin (not at the top in congress

). We won't have layoffs, but furloughs are possible. Not looking forward to unpaid time off. I'll survive, but it will suck. And this is why I am growing so much more in the garden this year to help us get by, now to find that extra 100 square feet or so.
Speaking of garden, on my to do list today will be pulling out my seed starting supplies to see what I need to buy more of. Come on Spring! We don't have mud, too much snow for that. With the rain, it turned to slush. And the slush froze. The driveway is now frozen ice ruts. And it is snowing again.

Happy Friday everyone!

My husband is standing over my shoulders and asking what kind of rooster that is in your avatar. I love my buckeyes!!!!

I'm not entirely sure -- maybe a Production Red or a New Hampshire ?

I call him "The Boss" ... he's a handsome fella that struts around someone's front yard not too far from my house.

Perhaps someone else can weigh in on his breed...

Kit Kat, what a nice brooder! Much nicer than the cardboard box mine get!

Rancher, it should be fine to send the cuttings like that, I'm not worried about the postage...but oh boy how do I choose?! I might need some hatching eggs sometime in April or May if you're up for that - if that cost more in postage for you I'll be sure to re-iburse you.

I'm crossing my fingers that my hardy kiwi's come up this spring - I got cuttings from a friend last year, but the dry summer we had didn't help much. I'm not sure I have any left. I broke down and bought the soaker hose way to late.

Tomorrow is hatch day for one of the eggs!!! I can't wait to see pictures (which of course I will share!)

Well you just let me know, we'll work it out then.

I'm reading on ducks and it says all ducks are thought have come from Mallards and Muscovy's. How that work and/or I don't know.
