NY chicken lover!!!!

Update on the new chickies: All five have hatched and are in the brooder. 2 Marans, 2 columbian rocks ( I think) and 1 black Orp. All are very active and loud so far. Yay!!!
Well that is good news. Congrats.

Is this becoming the "NY Chicken/Duck Lover" thread?!? Alright, that's it I'm getting myself some ducks. I don't care what DH has to say about it either. I'm downsizing my flock back down to 5 chickens the first week of April so I'll have room for a couple of ducks.

Adora ~ Soooooo cute! After seeing HappyHen's ducklings I'm falling in love with that breed.

Question: How can I go about getting my two orpington hens and silkies to join forces and live under one coop? Right now I have two coops both of which can hold up to 6 bantams. I will eventually have only 3 silkies in coop and the two orps are in their own. And it's a pretty large coop for just the two of them. I would love it if I could get the 5 under one roof and use one of the coops (preferably the one that my orps are in because it's shaped like a big dog house) for these ducks I want in the near future. They all go out in the yard and free range together but I notice that the two orpingtons keep their distance from the silkies ever since I got my silkie roo from Adora and he has taken the "leader" role in the flock. Is this possible? Should I do it? Should I not?!?

And how much are these ducklings going for at TS if I do end up going there to get them and have to buy 6? I just hope I can find homes for at least 3 of them.

Hello everyone, hope everyone had a good day!!!

Good news today, I introduced my little sebright that had been rejected to my mixed roo that was also rejected and they seemed to get along great! Good thing I'm working on another small coop right now.

Peeps local to me, the Town of Nassau is holding another small animal "tailgate" sale Saturday, April 27, from 9 AM until 2 PM at the Highway Department at 599 Central Nassau Road. This is why I love this dinky little town - anyplace that has a Farm and Agriculture Committee that encourages the sale of small livestock on town property is OK by me!
Do you know if there is a page about this? I would love to go and possibly sell a few chicks (maybe buy some too as usual haha).

There's nothing wrong with the LG.  You just have to get your own system going.  All the rules are not so hard and fast as I thought in the beginning.  Even the article I give out is off a little when it comes to Marans eggs.  I would never have known if not for BYC.  This hatch has the humidity 10% lower than I normally run.  We shall see if it's helps.

My humidity was 35% day 1-18 then 50% the last 3. They all hatched fine. I would have kept the humidity higher if it was possible but it worked out. I hope you have better luck on these Marans. How many do you have set and when are they due? My husband says the incubator can stay empty for while... Haha we will see :D

I would LOVE to go to the tailgate. But, I can't go though because I have "Go Green Day" at Farnsworth Middle school in Guilderland. I will be promoting backyard chickens. Yup, second time to participate and it really is fun. I am working on getting the display ready. Proper housing and care, how long chickens live (I have 7 yr old hens) breed selection, etc. Anyone have any other ideas? Be sure to visit if you happen to be that way!

How about Chicken Mythbusting? Come up with a few common misconceptions about chickens and then debunk them. "Myth: Hens need a rooster around to lay eggs. Busted: You only need a rooster if you want your eggs to be fertile because you plan to hatch chicks. Otherwise, a girls' club is perfectly fine!"

I'm still interested in a couple of goat kids, by the way. I've already informed Alan that there will be four-legged additions this year.
