NY chicken lover!!!!

I know a lady that has over 80 goats. She makes her own cheese, yogurt, soap you name it she can make it. I've heard goat milk is excellent for cooking. It's much thicker than cows milk more like a heavy cream.
Actually it has a higher butterfat content than cows milk but its really not any thicker than whole cows milk. Many times i have done the comparrison taste test, cows to goat with the same level of cream and most people cannot tell the diff.

Hey NY people! Just wanted you all to know about these Battery hens you can adopt! but you have to hurry, or they go to slaughter.... :(

Thanks for looking. Please spread the word. :)

If anyone closer to them would be willing to pick some up for me and meet me halfway (I live about 4 and half hours from there) I'd take them in a heartbeat. I know some others who probably would too. Is there anyone close who would be willing?

I live in Rochester and If I wasn't going to have surgery in two days I would help. Um there are some people in Syracuse that could probably help out. Best of luck.

You can't sell it or even give it away legally in the state of NY unless you are cert. dairy, but you can make great cheeses, yogurts and its great drinking as well.
only because the idiots in charge of the state think they know what is best for us ! When we get goats it will be for our uses only. We are working more and more towards a homestead

This is one of the new babies! I was hoping Rancher could clue me in to what breed it may be. At first I thought Columbian rock but now that it's dried and fluffy I'm thinking not.

if in Pittsfield go to the petsmart, or whatever the petstore is in the plaza with Homegoods. Go to the reptile section and there are hygrometers there. Usually several types to chose from. I have used my LG several times and have liked it. It has done well for me.
It does not have to be an expensive hydrometer... the little cheap dial-type ones are just fine!
i made the pound cake again, but this time I added 1 cup cocoa powder, and 1 cup chopped semi sweet chock chips. When it came out of the oven I poured 1/3 cup sambuka on the top, let it sit while it absorbed. I took it out of the pan and poured another 1/3 cup sambuka on the bottom and let that absorb. I took about another 1/3 cup Sambuka and drizzled on sides.Let cool. I put freshly ground white pepper on the top with some shaved chocolate and wrapped tightly for 2 days. YUMMY!!!
Really, occifer, I only had one slice of cake!
Pxis -- Where in upstate are you? Are you near albany?

We do have some NY members in the fingerlake region.
I'm an hour and a half away from Ithica. I'm already filled to the brim, though.

We were watching a show last night (Stossel?) about the state's "rules" of what we can eat/drink. Why should they have a right to tell me I can't buy unpasteurized milk? I'm sure somewhere along the lines there's probably some stupid law against selling farm fresh eggs, too. Kind of like telling us we can't have anything larger than a 20 oz. soda? Makes me so mad!

Off to the coop. They are making a racket out there this morning. Neighbors must love me. I think they are all singing the egg song together... LOUDLY.

Quote: Walmart sells a hygrometer with a probe for $11 & change. If you just want to know the temperature, put the probe inside the incubator. If you want to know the humidity, you put the whole thing inside the incubator. Its about the size of a pack of cards. I have 2, both work well. They are in the section where they sell outside thermometers, etc.
