Are these the BR's you spoke to me about?
Ok thanks may have to send wife up some time this summer to give them something to do while i'm at work. I work 2-11 so I wouldn't be able to see much in middle of week. My wife is wanting to do a garden so she might like the morning thing also. There is an auction every Wednesday in Springville on rt39. That's where I get my veggies and flowers in the spring. They also auction animals in the afternoon. Great place and lots to see
all of the time! My RIR's don't put up with a rooster that isn't their man. They puff up like a rooster, chest bump, chase them around, spur them. And a broody Sumatra. Oh boy. The roosters have learned not to mess with them. Thanks Stony and all for the thoughts, too many pages back to quote or anything.
Has anyone had hens that square off with a roo? Was just a little posturing, face to face getting tall, and a half hearted kick, then over, just thought it was interesting...
Yes they are. She contacted me this morning saying someone was interested in the whole flock so I figured I better get there before they're gone. They're being kept in one coop for now while everyone else is in another or free ranging during the day.
How long should I "quarantine" and keep them from the others for?
I wonder why folks want BR's so much. Unless she has a good line from a breeder. Hatchery BR's are skinny egg laying machines. IMO
I've got plenty of broodies. What I've been doing is dividing the eggs among them. Only thing is you gotta watch for hatches and take the chicks so the stay on the rest of the eggs. Marans eggs of course are a pain to candle, but the others aren't so bad.
Here's the latest Momma but I did fine another under a hen this AM and put it in the brooder with three others.

Mean Marge doesn't take any crap from any of the younger roosters and even the Alpha Roo (Hic) gives her her space. She's a handful even when she's in a good mood and if she ever goes broody? Well, she'll be sitting on 1000000 eggs by the end of 21 days, cuz I am not brave enough to reach under her to get the extra eggs laid after the clutch was set....I just don't have long enough gloves or short enough hair. (yes, she pulled my hair once when I bent over in front of where she was roosting to get something from the floor) So yeah, Hens can take on a roo...Mean Marge even wins, most of the time. Thanks Stony and all for the thoughts, too many pages back to quote or anything.
