So close to having my run finished! I ran out of zip ties!

I have learned to buy the GIANT bag of zip ties........always seems like I am cutting them off as fast as I attach them when I decide to tweak the coop

I found this on Pinterest a while back. Supposedly it is bear proof. At the very least it looks pretty cool

. We had a black bear wandering around last summer just east of Rochester. It was spotted about 2 miles from my house but thankfully wasn't a problem.

Still nothing on the 2 eggs in the bator. I'm beginning to worry...

Today is day 21. Hope they're ok in there and nothing has stopped them from hatching.
Stella should be going into lockdown today. Duncan is in her space right now so I'll have to move him and then place her in there tonight so she and babies are separated from the others.

Ducks - Well I have let them out to free range once. Since then I've put up a pen around their coop. I'm still nervous about letting them out because no matter how late I wait before locking them up at night, they're NEVER in their coop. I have to round them up to get in there. And since they've discovered the stream and pool right inside the woods, I'm worried that if I let them out and leave them out, they'll never come back to their coop and I'll be stuck chasing them in the WOODS at 8-9 night. So I'm just not sure what to do about them.

I really want them to be able to free range every day so I don't have to keep re-positioning the pen to keep the grass from becoming mud. I just want to let them out and them to come back at night.

Eggs finally! Of course it's from my silkies coop, and since I put my smaller set of babies in with them they hid their eggs lol.. Why won't my barred rock start laying again. My frustration with this past weather has made me crazy. My older set of babies should be laying soon!

Thats what I need to go out and buy today. I keep coming up with all these new ideas for the waters and feed in my coops but all I keep saying it "Man, I could really use some zip ties!" LOL

That IS cool! Looks like it was made out of one of those playground pieces with some extra bars added - someone must be handy in that family!

106 Posts, and I'll never catch up. Pharm, I'm sorry for your dd, but don't let the door kick him in the a** on the way out! Can't tell me he had no idea before wedding plans were started.

My poor Blackie (australorp broody). I made her an area all to herself and thought no one else could get in. Got home from work yesterday and she was out of her area and 2 other australorps were IN her area. I had only given her 4 eggs to start. One went missing a couple weeks ago so she's been on 3 most of the time. Yesterday, 2 more were gone and a small partial egg/chick was left behind. One hen that I had just taken out was now in another regular nest and I caught her eating a fresh egg. I grabbed her and then realized she's also broody (bare chest). I tagged her with an orange ziptie. I'm assuming I have to get rid of her, right?
I sealed off Blackie's area better, so I don't think anyone can get in. Poor girl only has one egg left and I'm hoping it's a good egg. I tried to candle it while she was off it but it was too light in the coop and I couldn't see anything.

AND Blondie (BO) is broody again. She has stuck like glue to her nest, so I may make a whole other secure area for her and future broodies. More of a permanent broody area.

What's that yellow thing up in the sky??? Enjoy it while it's here.

1. Love those zip ties. Come in handy for lots of uses. Don't buy the cheap $1 store ones. Not long enough for anything useful or holding power.

2. Lots of ways to skin a cat as they say. So you're sure to get lots of ideas here. Some that work for you and some that don't.

3. Lots of ire for that young man. Might be the best thing that ever happened to both of them. No reason when folks split it means one is bad and other is good. Could be they're both good just not a good fit. Let us hope that is the case.

4. Bree - I have your laundry basket. I can drop it off or you can swing by and pick it up.

5. Cute little bunny near the coop ran straight into the poultry wire around the fence. I think it was surprised to see it could no long fit through.

I chased the little bugger and it kept running into the fencing so I left it to find another way out. I didn't dare try to pick it up lest I get bit.

6. Much to do but this weather, while today being warm, will not be warm enough to dry things out. Mud and muck everywhere. Boy is it stinky too.

Well it is Saturday so I don't think there will be many visiting here today but for those who do have a nice day.

Only if it continues to be a problem .
My hens will eat a broken cracked egg ...so if there is a fight in the nesting box ...their will probably be a broken / missing egg .
Otherwise no one usually eats them ..
