NY chicken lover!!!!

At least you don't have to put a kidney stone through college...

I'd rather put it through college than were I do have to put it through. Owwwww!!!

Okay way too cute I keep debating whether or not to build a pond LOL this isn't helping. Beautiful though.

Well I survived the day mostly. Thought I wasn't going to get a lunch again at this job either and was worried what would I do. Anyhow I did get one late but things worked out. I'll definitely take a lunch eat any chance I get. Plus I'll eat breakfast though it's not something I'm used to.

What the heck is it with these employers who want to cheat the little guy out of the pittance they pay? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not ungrateful for the job, but my co workers work hard and they're telling me to watch my pay check. Certainly corporate wants the management to save money but to cheat people out of a few dollars?

Trust me when you get older the battle gets tiring. I just want to come in do my job and go home.

It's no wonder we have a pres who wants to rob the rich.

Any how these broodys are driving me crazy. I take the eggs but these two Ee's won't break. I've still got one on eggs. I can't wait for her to hatch one or two. Then I'll just take the unhatched eggs and toss them.

Now I was reading on another thread about mice, that mint will keep them , rats and rabbits away. I'll be planting it all around my runs and coops.

Well take care,

Rancher
I believe no matter what job you work you should watch your paycheck.

I have a rabbit that lives in a mint garden. Yes I have a garden full of mint. And rabbits live in it...for years now. Just cause ya read it on BYC does not make it the truth

Like I was told take everything with a grain of salt. I have mint naturally growing it's that lemon smelling one and then the chocolate is in our herb garden. I don't see too many rodents but the dogs do a great job of that terriers are wonderful not even wild birds come by too often. I haven't see the raccoon either no signs or nothing usually I find hand prints. A lot of loose dogs in the neighborhood I can't imagine he survived. Now I hope the skunk isn't lurking around either. I've seen the wild bunnies but something is keeping them at bay maybe the dogs as well.

I have had children. 3. All "natural childbirth", since I am allergic to novacaine so I couldn't have a spinal and anything else slows down the labor. I have had kidney stones. 3. I can tell anyone who wants to listen that kidney stones hurt more than child birth. However they are different kinds of pain. Kidney stones are kinda unrelenting getting worse at night when you are trying to sleep and recharge your batteries. Labor pains hurt INTENSELY for 60 - 180 seconds. Then they end. Until they come back (at regular intervals). While they are not hurting you can rest and if lucky drift off to sleep for 3 - 5 minutes. Morphine works well for kidney stones. Not so good for childbirth. (something about hurting the baby? LOL) If I had to choose I would choose having the baby, but then I love to rock babies to sleep. And you can never rock a kidney stone to sleep.
I've had one child and after 3hours I stopped feeling contractions because it was so intense I didn't have relief in between contractions. But I hope I never have kidney stones they tell me to just keep exercising (I don't know if it works or not). Wow natural child birth good for you! I was young and had no clue what was what and they just put a needle in my back and a few seconds later I fell asleep, and then a baby came out LOL (so it seemed). But I'm done and I hope I find someone who already has kids or doesn't want them. I'm a bit nervous though kidney problems in general run in my family. But kidney pain period sucks. I feel for everyone either going through or have gone through these kidney problems.

Breella, My Barred Rock is the first to go to bed she just peaces out and then when she's tucked in you hear her yelling making sure everyone went into their coops, the silkies and friends go in about the same time but my older babies take their sweet time one by one into their coop then another 10 minutes of making sure they are in the right order, I so roll my eyes at them. So they start around 8:30 and all are in by 9.

Lynzi,

I'm really sorry about your chick that Duncan killed. How horrible. Every time I think I might be able to mix my big hens with the youngsters without supervision, one of the smaller birds takes a hammering. Not sure what I'm going to do, except keep trying in little steps, but it's stressful. We are so attached to those 3 younger birds now, I'd hate to have something happen...so I can imagine how upset your were to lose one of yours.

On a brighter note, here are some up to date pics of a couple of the bigger girls having some down time.

Ursa the lounge lizard and Pringles, enjoying some sunshine.

Pringles, my Delaware, fluffed up and happy.

Hi all,

I'm wondering what some of your chickens favorite "snacks" are. I haven't given a whole lot of "people food" to mine, but they all go absolutely nuts for grapes. I cut up some and give all of them, big and small, a little treat every day or two. I figure it's a healthy treat, but am not sure if it would promote diarrhea so I don't over do it.

They also like bread (but not as much as grapes), but I don't do that too often.

What are some safe, healthful treats for "

" ??

Thx...

Cute birds TOB!!

We give ours anything from fruit to bread/crackers, left overs from dinner/lunch, today they had some ends of loaves of bread, raspberries-they got nuts for those! Also had a stuffed pepper last night that they devoured. We get so many eggs now that I usually end up scrambling the oldest dozen and grinding up all the shells and throw it all out there for everyone to share. There's so much they like that I think the easier question would be what can't they have? LOL

I bring my chickens home the leftovers off of kid's plates at school (the kids know we're "composting". lol) They get between 1 and 2 gallons worth of leftovers, everything from PB&J to carrots, lettuces, etc to oven baked chicken (de-boned). Bananas, apples, cookies, pizza, you name it. The only things I really avoid are salty things and stringy things like celery. It seems like a ton of food, but it's shared by 55 chickens, so it's gone in a flash. I've never had a problem with health issues caused by food. HTH!
Boy, will they miss their white buckets come summertime (no school!).

Pharm glad you had a day off! I hope you got some relaxing done.

Nutty I had a mishap with the DE that is what you see on my plant LOL

I have a bum knee I woke up screaming this morning it hurt so bad so I didn't go running this morning sad face for me. I have a fun day at work limping around while dealing with people calling in UGH but I got through it and I have some advil, heating pad, and menthol patch and a beer! I should be getting better soon. Chickens are good I put in an extra next box since my sex links should be laying soon and there was an egg in it but I'm not sure who layed it, I'm actually hoping it was my Barred Rock since she stopped laying during all that rain, but she is pretty picky so maybe it was my babies. I don't know I'm glad I got them use the wooden egg so they learned eggs are not to be pecked so that is a plus. Well if it is my barred rock her silkie sisters are 4 to her 1 darn it, my youngest babies are with my silkies and I think since everyone is getting along great I'm going to keep it that way I as going to maybe take the welsummer and faverolle out and leave the brabanter when they were bigger but why mess up what seems to be a good thing, so I got the measurements of their coop and will be refurbishing it very soon along with my larger coop hopefully before my other coops arrive in august so all I have to do then is set it up. So lets hope my knee and hip on the left side cooperate.

LOL OK then it is definitely a Pole Bean. Rest that Knee I hope it feel better

Trust me that Dr. has never had a kidney stone. I've had about five. The worst pain ever. I've heard women say it's even worse than having a baby.

My wife says they're trickling down from the rocks in my head.

I have had 6 babies all naturally and the smallest was 7lb 4 oz and she was 2 months early the last one was 11lbs. 15 1/2 oz and I have had numerous Kidney Stones too. I think as far as pain the Kidney stones you remember more childbirth you tend to forget.

I work for one of the largest Health Care organizations in the State of NY. If you don't watch your paycheck they don't pay you for all the hours you work. Once they didn't pay me for the Paid Time Off (PTO) I put in for to enhance my paycheck that week. (I had a slow week and needed the boost to have a "regular" paycheck)

It does get old, so I just don't do it. If I get shorted 20 - 40 dollars, oh well. I love my job, so I put up with the clerical errors that are bound to happen when you are part of any organization.
I would never allow an employer to continuously short me even if I loved the job it is not fair to yourself or the other employees because then they are going to think they should be able to do it to everyone.
I love that these chickens put themselves into the coop by 8:45.

Also, I got some leftover food from work today! raw corn, cucumbers and peaches!
Mine all put themselves in the coop when it starts really getting dark all I have to do is go out shut and lock the door.
