Letting the kids start to free range, but they pretty much stick to the stall and their pen. Everyone put themselves to bed tonight, so happy the kids have learned where home is.
But Luna decided to bring her chicks out tonight. When I went to lock up, she was on the floor in the stall with 4 chicks, one chick was left by itself in the coop. Don't trust to leave her outside of the coop on the floor all night, so grabbed the chicks and then her. But I found that one of the chicks she brought out is injured. I don't know if it fell off the ramp or if she stepped on it, but one leg is pointing up and to the side. Don't know if it is broken or dislocated, tips of the toes are purple. I don't know what to do, if it can be fixed. Chick can't stand or walk, uses it's wing to help propel itself forward. Heartbroken to lose so many in less than a week. Considering pulling the chicks from her, because I really don't want to deal with any more death this week. Especially if I have to put this one down. Someone, please advise. :'(
The Amber link is from a Rhode island Red male and either a white plymouth rock or white leghorn hen so they could look like either .
Yes but wouldn't the red from the RIR bleed through some by now? You shouldn't have a pure white amber sexlink. I've been trying to google "white amber sexlink" With no luck. That's why I listed a rock. I google most questions I have or wife has about anything. Normaly I can find the answer. You could try the "What Breed Or Gender is This?" area. If you do post the link to your post so we can follow some. I wouldn't mind seeing what others have to say about it.History: Amber Sex Link Chickens are created by crossing a Rhode Island Red Chicken and a white Plymouth Rock Chicken.
They do look like the white plymouth rock
Amy, my thoughts are with you in you and your family's sadness. My BYC flock, if you could spare a moment to send up a prayer or good wishes to my family, I'd appreciate it tremendously. My 22-year-old nephew was killed in an accident on Sunday. My sister and brother-in-law, my other nephews, my family, and all his friends and loved ones are devastated - I'm asking all my friends to pray for us or send good thoughts our way, as the support is so greatly needed and appreciated.
A tiny bright spot in the darkness of the past few days - last night, all four duck eggs under my hen hatched into beautiful baby Rouens. They're for my youngest nephew, who at five years old has lost the big brother who was such a huge part of his life. Such a simple thing, yet so meaningful in times like these.
