NY chicken lover!!!!

Apparently I'm very exciting to the turkey poults. I was out with them in the garage last night, and my favorite White Holland flew up onto me to visit. Not to be outdone, my favorite Bronze also flew up. Then it was turkey see, turkey do. I ended up with nine of them sitting on my arms and shoulders, burbling away happily, while I laughed myself silly. It was so appreciated - I needed the laugh! They're the funniest things - I love them!

Hello. Anyone remember me? LOL Verizon had an entire server fry and, of course, it was the one in my area. I was force offline for days. I was starting to have withdrawal.

Now my question oh wise ones. Mean Marge is totally bloated in her abdomen. I brought her inside, put her in front of the A/C for a while (Yes, yes, I actually brought a chicken in to cool off) and then I put her in some warm water to soak her owie. Then I massaged her belly. Much later that day she laid an egg. She always lays an large Olive Egg. She eats. She walks around. She lays an egg almost every day. She hates on the other hens. She roosts in the rafters. Her belly hangs almost to the ground. What, if anything, do I do?

Congrats to all the new chicken grandparents around here. Hope everyone's hatches continues to be fruitful.
Sounds like she has ascites to me. If she's laying eggs, might be something else than egg yolk peritonitis - maybe fatty liver? You could try draining it if you feel up to it. Of course, she could just be fat. :)

Anyone else have a dog that is terrified of thunder, fireworks, etc.  My younger pit-cross is just beside himself scared.  He is hiding under my son's bed now.  We turn on an empty humidifier just to make a little white noise, but he can hear the big bangs of the fireworks anyway.  I feel sorry for him, but nothing we do helps.  :(

(Saw those "thunder shirts" for dogs in a catalog; I can't believe they would work...)

TOB

My Mother bought a thunder shirt for her dog and at first she thought it was great. Now she says that it's better when on but doesn't completely ease the anxiety. My Aussie and Cocker are also afraid but I've learned to turn on the air conditioner and tv during the storm and sit calmly. Other wise I have 82 pounds of shaking fur in my lap. We can just hear the fireworks here and the dogs still go nuts. (I used to go around and unplug everything)

My first thought was internal layer, but if she is laying, that is not it. Sorry I am no help.

Welcome back!!!

Of course we remember you.

As far as Verizon goes, I've been having trouble with the internet kicking out every time there is a storm or heavy rain. I've considered Time Warner. We don't have cable and DW wants it. I'm reluctant. Can't get Fios here either.

It's very frustrating.

Don't know about Marge. Perhaps her egg laying will alleviate the trouble? Too make sure they have lots of grit. Summer months they eat lots of grasses.

my neighbor swears it works ....I have the chickens she doesnt ..I havent tried it yet

Yeah mine too.
