NY chicken lover!!!!

I am an idiot. I went from the outdoor run to inside the coop to care for the chicken with the wing injuries that I got from Lynzi. I didn't close the fence gate begins me all the way. Annie my Red sex link got out. (She is ok right now) my black lab was good, he tried to herd her the way I have been teaching him. Well my mother in laws dogs tear *** across the yard and start trying to kill her. Her only saving grace was my silly black lab who got her first and pinned her down ( he does this with cats too, no pressure, just a hold) so I could grab her. I was able to get her into the run and she went straight into the coop. I checked on her, no wounds. Just some hurt pride on my part. I can't believe I left the gate open.

Glad you caught her Breella! Good Doggy you have there (the black lab) How is that BR doing? Still witchy?!? Do you think those bare spots on her wings will grow some feathering back? I think she was in with more than one rooster when I got her from that woman. Seeing where the spots were looks like she took quite a beating from them.

Using a combo of Bag Balm to keep the area moist and Banix to kill any bacteria trying to make an infection I have managed to reduce redness and I am seeing some feather growth on the wings! She hasn't laid an egg yet but she's still healing. I am beginning to think that the white area at the top is exposed cartilage, but it appears that the skin is slowly making it's way back up. I have her in a crate inside the coop, she can see everyone but she can walk away if they all start picking on her, and she can't pick on them either.

If I go out after work and I find Pearls egg in her normal spot I will know that one of the young ladies has started to lay! If not I will file this away with last weeks fart egg from Pearl. 5 out of 6 good eggs a week from a Silkie is good to me.

Sounds like no harm was done! Good thing your lab was being good. My MIL & FIL had a lab that would go get the chickens out from the swamp when they got out (on command). She would bring them back in a loose hold in her mouth... never hurt them.
I'm left asking why your MIL's dog wasn't leashed??? Or is this on the same property?

We all do goofy things like that ....Glad she is okay .
Your chickens dont free range ? Are you right in the city ?

Thought I would share my BCM, George, & newly found voice this morning. He tried a couple weeks ago & it was really bad. This morning he was crowing up a storm. Hopefully since its not loud the neighbors dont hear him

He needs to go back to Sue this week since he started crowing. I am not allowed to have roosters but no one was the wiser since he didnt crow, I am going to miss him. My first Roo and he is so much fun to watch. I am going to miss him
Aw my young roo sounds like that right now! I love it!
I love the A frame cover you have with the red ondura roofing. Is that a a place for cover during the day?
I have some left over pieces from my old coop I would love to use in something like that.

Rancher, I have lots of Jostaberries this year! It only took 3 or 4 years. lol. Same size if not bigger than the gooseberries but tart like currents.

I also have an admission, I broke down and got two more chicks yesterday...a speckled sussex and another EE. I know you guys won't judge, lol.

Nothing is doing good here this year. It's been so wet. The Josta cutting are doing ok so far. Don't know if I'll be alive in 3yrs.

I've replanted the Gooseberries raising them up higher and in a mix of horse, topsoil and Miracle grow garden soil. Perhaps not enough sun but they aren't really in a shaded area.

Do you thing it would hurt to replant the raspberry bushes. I mulched them with chicken coop cleaning but wonder if I should replant them in a hill rather than level where they are now. I'll post pics.

Don't know what to do to get a yield on the red currants. Even the wild one I found in the woods doesn't have berries, nor the wild black berries.
