NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. Finally got electric back around 4 this morning. The storms that blew through were pretty bad.

Eowyn hatched out the other chick yesterday. She is a great mom and I believe I have one splash silkie chick and one light blue. I am thinking girls (at least hoping so).

I have to agree with everyone else about Duane and the repeated visits by said police officer. Something isnt right there.

Off to pharmland. Loving the cooler weather!

Since I have not hear from the officer yet I'm going to town hall either today or Monday. Maybe monday, that way I can say I've had this baby monitor set up all weekend. I can hear the girls going in for laying, I can hear their egg song, I can hear pearl cooing to the little ones. I kind of like this and wish I had done it when I first started putting them outside. It's like the secret life of chickens.

TAB thanks I'm going to try and run today I can't stand not doing nothing.

Luv I know how you feel I've been slowly filling the yard sand dirt straw plants grow right through it too.

I have been reading your dilemma over the last few days.My heart bleeds for you. I know how hard it is now to loose a roo. I gave up 7 this week. They went to good homes but still there was something about each one that I loved, and now it is sooooooooooooo quiet. If you find out that you can have a roo then stick to your guns. Do not get pushed around just because he is a cop. I work at night and my run is attached to my house. I cannot here the crowing when I take a nap during the day. Oh and the DB level of the motorcycles is way way higher than the crowing. just saying.

It has rained so much here. In my run around the coop is a mud hole. To bad I don't have pigs. I almost took a digger last night in the storm trying to close up for the night. I think that I need to get a load of gravel to put next the coop where it is so muddy. Most of the coop has good grass, but there is the one side of the coop where it is muddy. Any Ideas on what to do to help. I put some shavings down, but I don't think that I put enough cause it all washed away in the rain. I'll get a picture in the morning of my muddy problem area. I can't afford much so I need to come up with something that is as close to free as possible. I was thinking about putting the shavings from the coop there and then just cleaning it up in the spring. I know that will be a lot of work. The only other option that we have is to move the coop to the other side of the run and that will take a small army. It weights a ton. The ducks don't seem to mind the mud, but it is getting to the point where the girls don't like to go on that side. They don't mind walking through the other muddy patch when it is free (range)time.

I had the same problem but it was in the coop. I would suggest laying some paving stones, 2x4s or something like that aound the perimeter so nothing can no longer wash away. Then fill it with hay or wood nuggets (its mulch just bigger chunks) you won't get grass but it will keep the soil good till the spring. But you def need something to corral it in so it stops washing away.

Yea it is actually. Both my online coops are holding up pretty well, actually the one that doesn't have a "real" roof substance on top of it and is just wood panels, is doing better than the silkie coop. The roof is what makes this silkie coop sooooo heavy. What I want to do is remove the roof completely, and replace it with a metal/tin roofing material. If I can get my hands on some I'd start working on it this weekend. I've seen the large sheets of it at Homes Depot but will they cut it there for me?!? I would have no way of cutting something like that.

I just bought an online coop for a hundred bucks or so. Do you really like yours? I'm not sure how sturdy or safe it seems but I'm hoping it will be okay.

I am happy with them so far. I stained them twice or three times before putting them out in the yard and they've held up good so far. No broken pieces, nothing falling off. I've moved them around the yard numerous times. I really don't know what people what do to theirs when they have gotten them and say that they've fallen apart within months of having them. Are they slamming the doors shut? Are their goats jumping all over them? Who knows...but mine have held up great so far for going on their 2nd winter. I'll have to see how they are after this winter going into next year.

I am so sick of this nasty wet weather! The yard is turning into a mud pit. I didn't let the birds out today until this afternoon. I'm sure its going to rain again later. Ugh, its just miserable to try to do anything in the yard in this mess. And it doesn't help that any extra water from mountain runs down and into our yard as well.

I finished cleaning up the silkie coop a little bit ago. I removed all the wet shavings out of the bottom run yesterday before it began to pour again. Decided to wait until today to put new dry shavings in there because I didn't want the same thing happening again. I kept them locked up in the coop part by placing a nest box divider in front of the open door to the coop that allows them down into the run because I didn't want them making a mess of the floor down there. I don't think they enjoyed that too much. Owell, at least they were dry this morning.

Someone has 3 beautiful BR roosters on CL - are those yours Rancher?? I wish I could get a BR roo to go with my BR hen but I dont think that would go over very well with Gru. They are very nice looking though.

So, had this baby monitor going all night. I can hear the tiny chicks peeping, I can hear the girls who are laying eggs making their cooing and listen to it escalate into egg song for the morning. They are all miserable about being locked in the coop still but I am not opening that until 8am. Duane has been silent all morning.
I came up with another idea as well. Do you have a game cam or know of someone who does? If you have access to one you would have a date stamp and a recording proving Duane is not the problem. Just a thought in case you wanted documented proof.

I used to have a very nice Foscam for my horse but I sold it. :/ I still think this cop is blowing hot air.

All this talk of building has gotten me sad, I hurt my hip on monday and it's been raining so nothing done yet hopefully this weekend. Got a shed to get started and a run to finish, now that the wonderful hawk moved in, it scared my son so he went outside running to find things okay thankfully, gotta a good roo on my hands. I put wire over the birds and made a make shift fence for outside. I gotta get that run done it just needs the wire the frame is done LOL. Then the rabbit hutch I was given I need to make into a tractor for the silkies so I can take them out the other tractor they are in and use it for sick bay and quarentine so they are able to get on some grass and weeds, for a better recovery. Well got some homework to get done.

I hope the evening finds everyone well. Love the all pictures.

I've been spending time getting ready for winter. Just buttoning things down. No more building just accumulating cheap materials from HD and making plans.

Working now has made thing harder so I'm cutting back as much as I can. At least 7 or 8 are going. At least half are pullets or hens.

Got pics of your work you'd care to show?
