NY chicken lover!!!!

Thank you Stony, that just made my night.

Now I have to tell you I just had 19 roosters processed and the guy that did it made sure he explained the "hair" on my chickens.

Apparently he had never seen such hairy chickens and wanted to make sure I knew it was chicken hair and not his. Usually he raises and processes cornish cross and my mixed breed, mixed color chickens were a big surprise. Not only that, instead of sitting calmly in the open crate just watching him kill their buddies, they tried to get away! And then they fought back. He had never worked with such feisty chickens and I had to explain freerange heritage chickens to him.

Sumatra's have a lot of hairs as well, and generally fight and SCREAM LOUD. Which is why I usually snap their necks as soon as I pick them up, then remove the head.

And by hair I mean a few hair like feathers, But a layer of cow like hair under feathers. Now THAT is funny

Morning!

When people are just plain crappy I find myself wishing I could be a hermit. Miquwid sorry you had to deal with someone like that. Stony--some people just don't stop and think first.
I have running to do while my older 2 are in school this morning. Now that disability realized I delivered (even though I called the day I did) they sent the payment for 2 weeks worth and I have to catch up my bills. Communication skills are much to be desired with that office!

Well wishes for TOB's mom

TOB I lived in NJ for a minute it was alright. My son was born there and his father is laid to rest there, so for those reasons i have a soft spot for NJ. My stepson was in NJ but now in PA gonna have a baby in March.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother.

Lynzi Well at least he didnt crow. And I believe someone did mention that word. But hopefully i can move the silkies tonight and find a brave soul to help move my coop, so they can be out the rabbit hutch and in a super large coop even though they are bantams im unsure if my brabanter will like snow.

Glass glad you at least had a good time. Its always great to be home. Especially now that i own my house there is no place like home.

Well recently my brother n his girlfriend had a baby boy. My niece just had a baby girl on friday and my stepson's girl friend is due in march. Geesh ive been an aunt sincei was a teenager but almost 32 and hittin grand status lol.

Well my ten year old got mildly attacked by our roo for picking up a hen. I told him absolutely no tears and just stand yourground, and everything is fine with him and the roo now. Thats good in my opinion im not always home and people like to jump my 6" privacy fence and I want my girls protected. Got to get a sign "Beware of Rooster". I told people if my property continues to get crossed my dogs will be left out side.

The boys did good on our run today i took a week off to let my hip heal. It aint perfect butfar more managable.

So last night i was walking the all three dogs that we walk twice a day. Well some neighbor was putting our her garbage looked at me and said i dont no trouble. Not sure what my son, my dogs, an i did to give the impression of trouble as we queitly walked by. My pit ignored her and my yorkie n schnauzer mix wagged thier tails. But i guess that is all it takes. Lol

Well hope all is well!

It always amazes me when people say that about pits and I truly hope they were talking about your dogs. Our pit mix is one of the most lovable dogs around but people hear the word pit or see a large dog like that and automatically think the worse.

I'm ridiculously happy with these faverolles. So far at least three girls, and two iffy. One's a boy for sure, and he's out of here, since he hatched with no muffs. Don't know what happened there, but he can't stay in my breeding flock like that. So, if anyone wants a nice, pretty rooster from a very docile breed you can have him for free. One other is a boy I think, my little favorite, and if he's a boy he'll be staying on, since he seems to have a great temperament so far. I have 15 more of these guys due around the 30th with my silkies, so we'll have to see what I end up with. Gotta build a coop and get them out of my house before winter. I like them, but not enough to have them hanging around in here for three or four months.

But just think of all the good times ya'll could have in those 3-4 months. Walking around your house and watching tv with you. Maybe one of them could start a blog good times to be had : )

I have to get rid of an ee roo probably going to post on CL today. My small coop is only ment to hold 8 birds and I have like 16 1-3 month olds in there atm which I don't like. Also I went in there late last night and was about to get the bread pan out of there to fill the food and little bud desided to peck my hand. Nothing hard just didn't like it and since I know it's a roo it needs to go.

Just saw on the news website that there is a chance of scattered snow showers in the higher elevations (which means us) on Thursday...and so it begins

yeah, try not to think about it.  I still have chickens molting(why they chose now i'll never know)

Mine are molting also. Why they chose now so beyond me. I look at the and shiver........temps are dropping here and I am going to hide in the house with a Toasty fire going :)

x2 - I've already begun wearing my winter coat! LOL I hope the rest of Gru's feathers come in quickly before it gets even colder! His neck still looks so bare!

While we were at the show the other day we came across a couple of cages that were using that "Pop bottle" watering system with the little spouts you attach to the end of the bottle. Well I've been looking for them since and finally found some at Meyer Hatchery - $25 for 12 shipped. That was the best deal I could find. Some sites wanted $5 a piece, some wanted $3 but charged $16 just to ship! That was ridiculous IMO, especially for something so small and probably weighs no more than a few pounds - if that! Can't wait to use these in the silkie coop to help keep their crests feathers cleaner!

I FINALLY got the coop done this weekend!!!
There are a few things I would still like to button up and of course I'm decorating it!

Chicken math also struck me this weekend, I bit the bullet and picked up an EE a friend was trying to give me all summer. Of course I had to introduce a pair,so Jim and Sandy helped me out at Natureberry and also brought home a dark brahma. She is going to be huge! Her legs are enormous! This is also the first bird I have ever been able to pick up with very little fuss the first day having it.

I wish I had a better picture, the small A frame in the back was my original coop, for reference that has a 6x6 footprint and is about 5.5' tall.
