This is a great idea; never thought of it until I saw Lynzi's pic. Thx, Nutty!

I think with the lettuce that is chopped at the bottom, you would have to root it first in water. I threw mine right in the dirt cuz the boston lettuce comes with the "bulb" and roots still on it in the container. I don't have a pic at the moment because the only ones we have are in the dirt on my window sill, but here's a pic I just googled. You can see the roots under the leaves in the hand of this person:

Evening All,
Gotta love all this rain after the most gorgeous day of the year yesterday!

Ran out to TS yesterday to stock up on some feed, more feed bowls, ad also picked up some cracked corn and chicken scratch. I have never yet given my birds any of that and they loved it when I threw some out to them yesterday.

I took the duckling pen down yesterday with hopes the adults would come in, check them out and the younger ones would eventually follow them around but that didn't happen. The ducklings wants nothing to do with them. I'm wondering if I should start sticking them in with the adults at night?? I don't know but I'd really like that pen to be free so I can start splitting up the bantams that I want to breed.

Happy Birthday Sunnyside!!!

I just love repurposing !

All the chicks are so cute. I finally brought out my incubator as the temps outside are getting warmer. I learned last year without using a furnace (only wood heat) that I had troubles maintaining even temps, so I thought I 'd wait until later this year. I've been saving my Silkie mix eggs for a few days now because I want Sizzles. I have 2 already . It's a good thing I thought ahead as I found 1 dead today on the coop floor. No marks or feathers missing. I came in to get my knives to cut her open and DH had already taken it up on the hill. He normally never moves that fast and I can't outrun the 4 wheeler. I was so mad. I'm going to miss her or him. (Cecilia or Thor). The 2 that I had looked EXACTLY a like. I was never sure of Thor. (She/He) never crowed but I never separated them to see. Cecilia hatched eggs last year and then was attacked by the neighbors dog. I'm not even sure if this is the pic of the one that died. it never mattered to me before but today would be nice to know. Out of 7 Silkie mixes I routinely get 4 eggs daily.

Awww what a cutie! Sorry for the losses. Once my sizzles start laying I'll have eggs available as I can only hatch 7 at a time in my Brinsea. And I don't trust my LG yet with eggs like those

Almost two weeks and i dont know how many books i read put me back like 500 posts. Sorry not gonna catch up on that lol.

Thing been going ok here. I wish tsc was donewith their chick days. I'm getting over ran with chicks. Was selling ok then i get the sportsman and set up weekly hatches and no one wants to buy any now....... Oh well more chicks for me just makes the wife mad.

Hope everyone has been good and enjoying this nicer weather. We took the kids to park on sunday for a bit. Just cant wait for my yard to dry out some.

Who else has Sebastapols here? I know someone had some goslings recently, right? I am in love with mine. I wish I had gotten them sooner, but I was under the misconception that they needed a pond. Of all the geese, they stay inn the water the least amount of time, so most breeders, just have kiddie pools...

I'll have some goslings for sale probably late summer or fall. I can't keep them all if all my eggs hatch.

Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely cold rain...not!

I do! Just hatched a little female on Friday. Have another egg that I set at the same time as her in lockdown still. Hoping it hatches soon so she'll have a friend.
