DH and I are thinking about getting a few leghorns from chick days this year if we happen to be in the store when they have some. Our leghorns are 2 yrs old now and slowing down.

It's a red squirrel! Lol! I'm sure rancher knows what a weasel looks like.
Reading on Weasels in NY, didn't know we had two species. Ermine/short tailed weasels are small and USUALLY turn white in winter. Long tailed weasels are bigger and MAY turn white in winter. Both usually turn back in color mid Feb March, depending on weather conditions.
Lets look at it as a sign the weasel knows spring is just around the corner, maybe next week?!!!
Nice catch!!!!I do know what a red squirrel is and I've caught a few. This is was a weasel. He was stiff and frozen to garage floor. Someone on another thread asked if it was a mouse trap and no it was a rat trap. The difficulty I have with snagging squirrels in rat traps is because they eat with their paws and grab the bait rather than stick their head in first. I have caught a few squirrels but they are tough. Not to mention I saw it as it ran into the garage. I can send it to you if you'd like.
