very cute chicks mine are a week old on Friday too

The vertical nipples always have a drop of water hanging from each nipple. The paper towel will get wet as the drops slowly fall and when the chicks drink. Since this brooder is cardboard I have a rubber shelf liner in that area. I have newspaper under the paper towel on top of the rubber liner. The bottom of the box stays nice and dry and I switch out the papertowel/newspaper as needed daily or every other day. It is very easy. Chickens always have clean water and no messy water to change. I have spring operated horizontal nipples in my adult chicken coop. They are completely drip free but require more pressure exerted by the chicken to overcome the spring pressure. I don't know if a chick could exert the needed pressure to use a drip free nipple.

Ok, pics of new chicks. EE roo over Australorp, EE, Brahma, Red Star, Amber link, & Tetra tint hens.

I'd like to try a nipple waterer, I have dumb chickens though, they might not figure it out. I hung a big head of cabbage in their coop, two weeks they never touched it. I even put scratch under it and ripped some leaves off which they did eat. I think they were scared of it so I took it down and they devoured it in a day and a half.
