That is where I got my first chickens. My experience was very good. I got EE, dark and light Brahamas, Amber links, and Australorps from them. The only negative was the extra fees they tack on to the order that they say are universal with the industry. Now that I have more experience I would not buy from a hatchery unless I could not find what I was looking for elsewhere. If you want specific breeds it is best to buy from an individual that is specific for that breed. You will get much better quality birds. If you want production birds that will give you lots of brown or white eggs you can find them in the spring at tractor supply or Runnings. If you can make it to chickenstock you will be able to fill your coop with some wonderful local birds that will lay a rainbow of colors.

Yeah it's hot out! Just finished rototilling a new garden. Mowed as close as I could and tilled up a 25x50' section. Easiest time I ever had with our little tiller, it's so bone dry the sod disintegrated. Usually in the wet spring it balls up and I fight with it. Seems like we went from frozen ground and snow right to summer. Our peas are only a few inches high right now and its in the 80s. Usually we have them in so early it snows at least once on them.

I need to find the time to find my garden. I have the backhoe on the tractor right now and need to dig a small water pond for the horses for the summer. Then I can remove the backhoe and hook up the tiller. Before I till I have to pull out last years stakes/fences, mow everything down, spray some weed killer and apply some horse/chicken manure.

That looks great!!! I think that we are going to start sourcing some more pallets too. Great use of what would otherwise be doomed for a junkyard.

I had never dreamed they would put so much insecticide and fungicide on those pallets and had to look for the HT symbol...Someone asked me about them once and then I started the research. I already had one pallet painted and backed with garden landscape fabric for a strawberry planter...which is now a lovely flower planter!

Where is everyone finding their pallets. I have a few (ok neverending) coop projects planned and would love to use re-purposed pallets.

If you were closer to me I could hook you up. My father works at a place that is constantly going through pallets and I get them for free when I want them. I hooked Baking up with some for her pig enclosure :)

My neighbor gets them from somewhere in Rochester, but most Lowes', Home Depot etc. will have pallets - you just have to ask at the front desk. If anyone is near Waterloo apparently HEP has tons of pallets - they are begging for people to take them away!

HI all newbies, I'm in Texas ..
DW would stay but I want to come home. I will pay it. Thats' how bad I want to come home.
Bored is an understatement.
If DW is working too hard & you are bored ...maybe you could help out more ?
Maybe you can find some chickens to visit in Texas ?
Were all good.. We spent last summer getting our house ready to sell and then found out were having another baby ( #5 ) so took the house off the market. But I have been supper busy and haven't been on much. And I'm prego so I'm trying not to play with the chickens to much lol.

Congrats ....I hear it is good to stay away from kitty litter too

HI all newbies, I'm in Texas and the weather here is not good. Tornadoes north of us here in Conroe.

Nice article in ME on Guineas. I'd quote it but scrolling on this laptop is a royal pain. So I can only stand it so long.

I"m anxious for home but air fare is as much one way as two way when we came down. DW would stay but I want to come home. I will pay it. Thats' how bad I want to come home.

There are lots of wonderful chicken breeders in Texas. I have BCM and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks in my brooder that I hatched from eggs shipped from Texas breeders. If you fill your carry-on and pockets you may be able to get a better hatch rate than those shipped by USPS

I've actually heard pretty good things about The Poultry Place in Clifton Springs, and am thinking of getting some Brahmas, LF Cochins and turkeys from them.

A good friend of mine, who sells and breeds high quality heritage ducks and other fowl, gets *some* of his birds from there.  I know he gets his turkeys at least.

He suggested I check them out if I couldn't source local reputable Brahma and Cochins.
I know a lady who breeds Cochins in the Batavia area. She exhibits at the Rochester poultry show.

My wife is working in Waterloo next week. I'll have to call HEP and see if they have extra pallets available. If so DW might be going to work in a large farm truck
