NY chicken lover!!!!

So we went to a "flea" market. It was a culture shock. Chickens and all kinds in cages and crates. Goats,pigs,and ponies. Many not so good looking. Of course being Texas mostly Spanish speaking. Wished I'd learned it. Will be going back, but no for animals. I expect many were for eating.

Well, I had a tragedy this morning. I'm sure the older birds running around the workshop are to blame. Somehow in the night all the water in my gallon waterer in the waterfowl brooder ran out into the brooder, soaked everything, chilled the babies, and I lost all of them except one khaki campbell duckling. All five of my beautiful sebastopols died I'm almost positive whatever happened was caused by the older birds flying into their brooder and bumping the waterer.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about water in the brooder. It's always a struggle just with the little waterer. My thoughts are with you. I wish I had chicks or eggs I could give you.

Gramma, I saw something by the Chickenchick about those weird eggs. There is a name for them, but they are a bad sign. It is basically pus...is what I remember. Is someone seeming sick?

I found it thanks ..Yes I have a chicken that is sick ..
I suspected she would have problems ..as a young pullet she layed too early & got a prolapsed vent
Its a lash egg ...it may contain pus , egg yolk , egg white & or membrane .
Probably means there was a fever as it cooks the egg

Broody questions...Thanks for your help guys!

My little Sumatra Set & hatched 7 eggs ...so I would think a reg size one could do 10- 12 eggs .
Ive had a broody setting for almost 6 weeks ....i put new eggs under her...
It would be okay to put ones the same age under 1 hen ...give the new eggs to the newer broody .
Yes if chicks hatch after a few days..she will leave the eggs ...to take care of the chicks ...
Be prepared to fire up the incubator ....to continue the hatch.
