NY chicken lover!!!!

Has anyone else had problems with seed they planted? I had to replant beans, cucumbers, and zucchini I got from TSC because it didn't come up. My dad and some of my coworkers have had the same problem.

I buy mine direct from Henry Fields and Burpee, maybe check the expiration dates? But also had poor germination of lettuce and Swiss chard, didn't have time to water them and so little rain, so i can account for that mistake.

I always buy my seeds from Pinetree seeds (superseed.com). They sell smaller quantity for the backyard gardener, Vermont bean and/or naturalgardening.com. I have been very pleased with all 3 companies. The only thing that didn't grow for me was lettuce, but I was using older seed - so my fault.

Slugs will nail plants at night before you know what happened. Only half my beans survived. I had a big bag of five year old sunflowers from Page Seed Company Greene NY, all 144 I started in peat pellets came up. I let them dry out and now their dead :-(
Going to direct sow some now. Only reason I started them that way was to make it easier planting them up a fence line without tilling.
I like the Page seeds, they fertility check and state when they did it and the percent. I got one ounce bags of beets, swiss chard, spinach and Kale for $2-$2.50 each.

Morning all. Dh let the little monsters out to free range last night for the first time. They had a good time. Their parents were not happy that they had to stay locked up. Talk about stinkeye!!! The black sexlinks pullets are very pretty and cheeky. The boys were busy challenging each other.

Prices are climbing on eggs and chicken. Demand might pick up for everyone who sells eggs. I'm at capacity now with my regulars. No plans to increase numbers, just maintain. I'm sure things will bounce back once this avian flu runs it's course.

Have a whole weekend off! Go me!

I just Love the mini-terrorists......................... kept them locked in for2 days so they where home is. I let them out every afternoon with my bantam cochins. They are already under foot aand boy can they talk. They like me to rub their chests and under their chins. I'm very happy with them.........................Thanks Pharm

Morning all. Chilly start to a nice day. Finally counted and candled the eggs under my two broody dislike girls. Pulled 4 clear, left 6, of which 2 are close to hatching. Eowyn had to voice her displeasure of course but arwin was cool about it. Gotta clean out that coop today to prepare for babies. The 5 in the brooder are growing like weeds and look good.

Crcrazy...I'm glad your little monsters are bonding with you. They will be great layers and come from healthy, indestructible stock. Yes, they will yak your head off, get underfoot to see what you are doing and will work you for food and treats constantly! I am hoping that one of the boys turns out like his father, The Duke. An excellent rooster.

Going strawberry picking with my daughter later. Getting some rhubarb too so I can make a pie and some jam. My strawberry plants are perking up now that we have had some sun so hopefully they will produce this year. Tomatoes and cucumbers are setting flowers already. Have to prune the tomatos some.

Have a nice day all!
