NY chicken lover!!!!

Sure I'll just do that with all my money. Seriously, money is tight, and I'd have to give up chickens or something else. So if I do it myself, I can have more chickens.  Though I have in the past. There are labor laws and kids have to be 18 to operate a machine. A weed whacker is a machine. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm insured for that.  I have/am considering it. At least to get some help in getting it done.

Things I used to do at 13 kids can't do today.

Sorry rancher, guess I didn't think that one all the way through. I forget that things are different now and cost more. If I were closer I would come give you a hand catching up. This is the first year that I'm actually on target with my outdoor stuff.

Sweatpea...I learned a long time ago to leave a broody in whatever nest box she chooses. No matter how much you fight with hed, she will win. There will be next year for your girl or later. I have two silkie girls in one nest box with chick's and eggs. They are fine together and my older momma will teach the new momma what to do. Legoland is smart. He is staying out in the run. Safer that way! I love the name of your hen...Attila the hen!

Any takers on the question I had regarding a vent prolapse and its tendency to return? I need to decide whether or not to cull this hen, or convince my husband that it's worth it to stick his finger up her rear to push her vent back in and subsequently, save her.

Another question...my broody has one last egg. It's due to hatch tomorrow...thursday-ish. I candled it not long ago and there was a chick, but no movement. I candled it again...still no movement. I don't have high hopes for this egg but...I didn't have high hopes for the cold egg she kicked out, and that one hatched a perfect little chick.

The day before yesterday, she had a nasty broody poop and the egg was pretty covered. I washed it off, candled it again (still no movement) and put it back under her. This morning, I candled it again (I know...too many candlings but...given that I've had my eye on this egg....)

Now...when I candle this egg, the entire thing is dark! No air cell...nothing discernible. If I didn't know better, I'd assume it was one of my ceramic dummy eggs. The flashlight I'm using is definitely strong enough.

What the heck could this be? I don't want to crack this egg and get rid of it, if that chick is perfectly fine....but I don't want to leave a ticking time bomb under the broody.

(And in case anybody was wondering....I did end up bringing the broody and her chicks into the house. She's a good momma, however she was not protecting the chicks from the other hens. One walked right up to the nesting box and pecked a chick hard and she hardly blinked. My husband is not happy that a chicken...a stinky broody chicken, no less...is in our house).
The chick has broken through the air sack so it fills up the whole egg.

Hey were do I go or how do I delete pictures I've posted here?

Why? I think the only way you can is go to the original posts you want to take the pics down and click edit then just backspace erase them and re-post. It will stay where you originally posted but minus pic. I've done it a few times on posts that I posted something or said something and then changed my mind, oops posts. I'm usually on my phone and BYC is hard to navigate on it, and then the stupid 'predictive text/spellcheck' messes up and I don't see how dumb it is until later. I can turn it off but then I sound dumb cause I can't spell. Lol.

Also never take me too serious. I'm sure I could get help if I "really" wanted it. Then too, no one will take their pay in "chickens per hour".

Though my barber did give me five dollars off when I bought him eggs.

Everyone else: Went to my GD graduation from Pre school. The announced what each kid wants to be when they grow up. My GD? Wants to be a Power Ranger.

She was the first one up. I felt really bad when hearing, fireman, nurse, doctor, astronaut etc. etc.

My GD's parents had explained to her, she'd have to study science and physics. She'll have to design and build the weapons she'll need.

there is a cache of pictures I've posted. Some are old and need to be removed so I can add more.

In answer to a question about the GF order I hope we can make.

In the past I was told the minimum chicks was 6. It might have changed.

But look at it this way. If we order together the chicks will come here and we can split the shipping per chick.

EX. you order two, I order four, someone else orders three. We divide the shipping example $35 per chick and we each pay $3.50.

Now you order six and you pay $5.83 shipping per chick.

Of course the more we order the less we pay each.

Now suppose you only want two of a breed and someone else wants two of the same breed you can work together to build up your numbers of that one breed. '

Plus if you each get roos or pullets you can work to help each other.

For those who've not looked at the email. GF has Legbar pullets on sale.

Just got real dark here...we have tornado warnings. Hopefully, power will be ok as I have an incubator full of lovely eggs!!!

Everyone stay safe!!!!
Power kicked out here for a minute. I expect it won't go out for much but if it does just cover the incu with towels til it comes back on. Which shouldn't be to long.

Even though GFF warranties orders I think what your doing is better, the more chicks shipped the better chance of survival.
And ohh, you meant your cache not posts of pics, no clue how to empty that, I only see mine if I'm on the laptop which is rarely.
